A fun day out at the park took a tragic turn after a man was killed when a tyre swing he pushed came back and hit him.
Aleim Perkins had taken his niece Leela, six, to play at the Tompkins Square Park in New York on Monday afternoon.
The 39-year-old was ‘aggressively’ pushing the empty swing, according to the New York Post who quoted witnesses, when the accident happened.
He had attempted to get out of the way but he wasn’t quick enough and was struck in the face, with the swing reportedly knocking his fillings out.
‘It hit him on the left cheek. He just plopped down,’ a witness, 12, added.
He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead when he arrived.
Despite concerns, authorities have refused to take down the tyre swing.
