Counter-terror police arrest man, 20, in Thamesmead
« on: December 15, 2014, 03:17:22 pm »
A young man has been arrested by anti-terror police in south east London on suspicion of preparing for an act of terrorism.

Scotland Yard said the 20-year-old was held in Thamesmead by officers from the Counter Terrorism Command.

It is understood the man is suspected of wanting to travel abroad for alleged terrorism and is not connected to any potential attack planning in the UK.

He has been taken to a south London police station, where he remains in custody.

The arrest was made under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

It comes after six men were charged with a series of terrorism and fraud charges.

The move is one of a wave of terrorism arrests across London and the rest of the country since the terror threat level in the UK was raised from substantial to severe.

The Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre raised the threat level in August against a backdrop of increasing concerns over hundreds of aspiring British jihadis travelling to Iraq and Syria to learn terrorist "tradecraft".

Local to me. Thamesmead is a shithole at the best of times.
