Obama’s Amnesty For Illegal Aliens (Amigocare): What Both Sides Are Saying
Posted by: Javier Manjarres on November 21, 2014

So what are they politicos saying about President Obama’s executive amnesty orders, or Amigocare, that he is expected to sign today in Las Vegas, Nevada?

After suffering a historic election night smack down, Democrats can only be giddy over President Obama’s amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Here are a few samplings of Democrat immigration euphoria:

And now let’s post what Republicans and Conservatives have to say about Obama’s political immigration move:

“While I support the president’s intention to provide relief to the immigrant community, this proposal seems arbitrary, limited in scope, and temporary. No one can guarantee it will not be overturned. Our strong preference is a legislative fix that is sensible, long term, and approved with bipartisan support. Republicans and Democrats should work across the aisle on reforms that promote economic growth, improve enforcement, address the 11 million here without legal status, and provide relief for those brought here as children through no fault of their own. Whatever their intentions, the measures announced tonight make a long-term fix harder to achieve, and that is unfortunate. “-Daniel Garza, Libre Initiative

“We need immigration reform. But the right way to do it is to first bring illegal immigration under control by securing the borders and enforcing the laws, then modernizing our legal immigration system. After we do these things, we will eventually have to deal with those here illegally in a reasonable but responsible way. The President’s actions now make all of this harder and are unfair to people in our immigration system who are doing things the right way.”-Senator Marco Rubio (Source)

“The President cannot change the law by fiat.  Obama’s edict usurps the legislative power of Congress, damages our constitutional system, and creates a precedent that will likely lead to the further erosion of our liberty.

Would the same Founding Fathers who fought a revolution against George III have created a constitution that permitted the executive to legislate around Congress whenever Congress declined to bend to the executive’s will?  President Obama has repeatedly acknowledged that the President can do no such thing, yet tonight he tossed aside his own understanding of our foundational document and has made himself a constitutional outlaw.

What about the voice of the American people?  They get no say in this matter even though they decisively repudiated the President’s policies at the polls just a few weeks ago.  The President’s illegal executive amnesty is bigger than the 1986 amnesty which was actually passed by Congress and signed by President Reagan.  Obama’s arrogance and contempt for the people are breathtaking.

And make no mistake, by issuing work permits to illegal immigrants, the President’s edict will have serious policy consequences: it will fuel more illegal immigration, thereby exacerbating the problem, will further disadvantage legal immigrants and U.S. citizens seeking to utilize our immigration system in accordance with the laws of our land, and will put a downward pressure on the wages of American blue collar workers.”-Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL)

“In a desperate attempt to remain relevant, the President has decided to defy the American people, ignore the election results, and usurp the legislative process.  This act demonstrates he respects neither election outcomes, nor the rule of law.  It will make the humanitarian crisis at the border worse, and could potentially create a constitutional crisis within our republic. Congress must respond to restore the proper checks and balances to our constitutional order, and it must do so quickly and forcefully.  I hope and expect there are a number of Democrats who are tired of being asked to protect the President, often at great political cost.  It’s time for them to stand with the American people.”-Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)

“As President Obama has stated, ‘I am President of the United States, not the Emperor of the United States.’ He further stated that acting unilaterally is ‘ignoring the law in a way that I believe would be very difficult to defend legally.’ Now, the President says he has the authority to stop deportations. It begs the question – why did President Obama deport more than two million people, dividing families, when according to him, it could have been avoided?”
“While we agree on the merits of some of the announced measures,” continued Diaz-Balart and Ros-Lehtinen, “the President’s executive order makes it more difficult to pass a commonsense solution to our country’s broken immigration system. We continue to believe that we must find a bipartisan, legislative solution to strengthen our borders, offer a permanent and humane solution to those living in the shadows, adhere to the rule of law, modernize our antiquated visa system, and bolster the economy. None of this is accomplished by the President’s executive order.”

“Shortly after this year’s election, President Obama said he was willing to work together with the new Congress. He has now clearly demonstrated that he has no intention of doing so. His actions will unfortunately further divide our country.  We are committed to finding a bipartisan, legislative solution that will unite a majority of Congress and the American people on this critical issue.”- Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL)

“Today President Obama conceded his failure as a leader on immigration. Instead of finding common ground with Congress, he chose to bail out his bankrupt presidency through an order he has already admitted he cannot legally take. He violated his promise to champion reform in his first term, sabotaged bipartisan House negotiations in his second and bred distrust by failing to faithfully enforce the law throughout.

“Now he wants to save face by imposing unilaterally what he could not achieve democratically. Congress must defend its constitutional role to make laws and immediately block his illegal action through all available avenues.

“The president’s action not only undermines efforts to achieve real reform – it is directly opposed to it. Real reform starts with enforcing current laws, securing the border and modernizing the visa system. Only a system that works – that drives immigrants into viable avenues for legal entry – will end illegal immigration and protect the rule of law. That is what I will continue to fight for – no matter who occupies the White House.”-Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID)

“As a second generation Greek American, I have a firsthand understanding of the importance and power of the American dream, as well asthe sensitivity and passion surrounding immigration reform. There is no doubt our immigration system is broken, but President Obama cannot act unilaterally and refuse to work with Congress. In the President’s own words: ‘That’s not how our democracy functions.’

We must not forget that we have an obligation to preserve the promise of the American dream for future generations. To do so, we must uphold the rule of law and ensure its equal application. This means that we must enforce current immigration laws, strengthen the borders, and ensure all visas are enforced properly. This is an issue that impacts all Americans, and we must unite to solve this problem. In doing so, we can ensure the American dream remains alive and well for future generations.”-Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL)

“Tonight, the president has decided to take it upon himself to provide unprecedented executive amnesty for millions of undocumented immigrants. Rather than working with Congress to address the critical issues facing our nation, the president is unilaterally bypassing Congress to unlawfully attempt to change our immigration laws.

“More importantly, the president’s unlawful act continues the economic squeeze on hardworking American families by allowing millions of undocumented persons to compete for their jobs and pay checks. Over the past six years of the Obama economy, American families have seen their incomes stay flat, and in some cases decrease; while their costs for food, health care, energy and education have increased. Now the president is essentially ‘outsourcing’ their jobs and financial futures to persons here illegally…”-Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX)

“President Obama’s decision to utterly bypass Congress and grant amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants—against the will of the American people—is lawless, unconstitutional, and frankly, un-American. The separation of powers was carefully written into our Constitution by our Founders to ensure that no one individual would have the power to override the will of the American people. The President’s unprecedented abuse of executive orders is an affront to the voice of the people.  The decision to grant amnesty now rather than wait until January to work with the new Congress on a long term solution to our nation’s immigration problem shows that the President is interested in politics, not real solutions.”-Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC)

He (Obama) has absolutely failed us. One of the basic duties as President is to secure our borders, he hasn’t done that…He’s got to learn to work with Congress to get things done.”-Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL)
