Why do I post this tripe?  Because a relative of mine posted it on Facebook like it was something earth shattering while demonstrating his intellectual chops.  I simply responded, "How tolerant."  Have at it.

The destructive myth about religion that Americans disproportionately believe
The U.S. is the last remaining highly developed country that hasn't abandoned this problematic belief
CJ Werleman, AlterNet

From the article:
Quote
While the Republican Party retains its monolithic hold on the South, the rest of America remains deprived of universal healthcare, electric cars, sensible gun control laws, carbon emission bans, a progressive tax structure that underpins massive public investment, and collective bargaining laws that would compress the income inequality gap. In other words, without the South’s religiosity, “America” would again look like a developed, secular country, a country where it’s probable for an atheist to be elected into public office, and where the other 50 million law-abiding atheists wouldn’t be looked upon as rapists, thieves and murderers.

If these things are so desirable, then they can easily be implemented at the state level.  In fact, many states have implemented these and other progressive initiatives.  So tell your relative to move to California where he will find all the gun grabbing, emission banning, progressive taxing, high-on-the-hog living public employees he could ever want.  The state needs him anyway.  The producers are leaving California in droves -- moving to places like Texas.

She lives in San Fran Nan's District already.  She's still not happy.  George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin haven't be shot.  Churches are still allowed to exist and religious people aren't in concentration camps.  If those things all happened, she'd be happy then.

There are people that simply cannot or will not think straight.

If living in a commune, they would find fault all around. They would see unfairness, and make a big stink.

But if they were the beneficiary of some "unfairness" they would likely defend and justify their "windfall," or cheat to preserve it.

My wife's cousin lived with some commune types in the early 70s and left in disgust, because of the dishonesty and hypocrisy. She then met and married an US Marine, married and has lived life as a happy upbeat, eclectic, artistic, conservative woman, mother and grandmother.

Can we start calling them "bitter clingers?"

I vehemently disagree with the idea that atheists and agnostics are incapable of true morality.

I knew by reading the headline that this would be all about American Christianity.

While these so called 'enlightened intellectuals' heap venom on all things and all people related to Christianity, they have nothing but praise for the single most harsh, and violent religion on Earth, that is Islam.

All the Leftist condemnation of 'religion' is confined primarily to Christianity and indirectly to Judasim.

Islam is a 'religion of peace', in their backward, twisted, and warped minds. Idiots and fools, all of them.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

Please stop poking the nest, Luis.

They just don't want to see cherished members ridiculed or ashamed of their faith or beliefs.  And I concur.

Just let it go....tomorrow's a BIG day.

How does my stating my beliefs translate into ridiculing the beliefs of others?

Wouldn't that then mean that their stating their beliefs means that they're ridiculing mine?

If the idea is that no opposing or dissenting views to Christianity are allowed in the forum because it is offensive to some Christians, why not just label this a Christian forum with Islamic operating rules?

The reality is that what was truly offensive is that those "cherished" members want to control the discourse via threats of departure and question anyone's integrity and honesty every time an opinion is stated that does not "fall in line" with theirs.

I wonder if the anti-Christian mockery here is for real, or if it's just a sadistic game being played.

If the price of being here is that I have to put up and shut up when my integrity and my honesty is being challenged, and I need to be labeled a sadist, then I am no "cherished member", am I?

When it comes to opinions that truly define who somebody is, even the mere presence of disagreement can be seen as an affront on everything that is important to them. People just need to learn how to have a conversation without allowing it to get personal. It's really not hard; we're all adults here, and we should be able to disagree with civility.

This is unnecessary and will only serve as tinder for another flame war. I know that you've been baited and harassed, but it has to be up to you to not allow it to devolve into pettiness. It's not always easy to be the bigger person, but it is sometimes necessary for things to remain civil.

You're right, but you just need to ask yourself if it is worth it. Don't allow yourself to be manipulated into playing their game and stooping to their level. Rise above it, and as the conversation unfolds the strength of your own position will be reflected by their constant berating and immature baiting. Name calling and unwarranted anger are signs of a weak position. The more you do your thing and rise above that, the more you will dominate the conversation.

I almost snorted my cuppa all over the keyboard!  Is that what passes for "intellectual" "thought" in liberal circles these days?

Your addiction to pornography has nothing to do with him.

Dude...

If his addiction to pornography could impact his keyboard, he'd have no real need for pornography.
