Oregon Student Brags About Building, Bringing Bomb To School

Posted By Washington Free Beacon Staff On September 26, 2014 @ 3:37 pm In National Security | No Comments

A sophomore high school student was arrested today after he brought a homemade explosive device to St. Helens High School in St. Helens, Ore.

The suspect allegedly told other students about the device at a McDonald’s early this morning. A student who overheard the conversation notified school officials.

When confronted by police, the suspect admitted he built the explosive device and that it was in his locker. The state police bomb squad was then called in to assess the device. All students were evacuated to the football field.

NBC’s Portland affiliate KGW interviewed St. Helens Police Chief Terry Moss about the incident. Moss described the device as “rudimentary,” but that it “was explosive and could have hurt somebody.”

“We’re not talking about a situation where they could have blown up the whole school,” Moss said.

Police do not believe the incident was part of a greater plot.

The suspect is facing two felony charges including possession of an explosive device.
