All of a Sudden the Bible Matters to John Kerry

We’ve got judges across the United States overruling what the Bible says about abortion and same-sex sexuality, claiming that religion and State must be separate, it’s OK to take money from some people and give it to other people, but when it comes to Global Warming all of a sudden the Bible matters.
“Wednesday at a ceremony to appoint Texas lawyer Shaarik Zafar to be special representative to Muslim communities, Secretary of State John Kerry said it was the United States' Biblical ‘responsibility’ to ‘confront climate change,’ including to protect ‘vulnerable Muslim majority counties.’
“Kerry said [the] Scripture
, in particular the Book of Genesis, make clear it is our ‘duty’ to protect the planet and we should look at Muslim countries ‘with a sense of stewardship of earth,’ adding, ‘That responsibility comes from God.’”
John Kerry isn’t the least bit interested in what the Bible says about anything. He wants to empower the State, and he is using religion to make a case for more money to be collected from the masses and more power to be given to governments.
What John Kerry should have said to this special representative to Muslim communities is for him to become an envoy to the Muslim world to stop the wanton killing of innocent Muslims, Christians, and Jews, kidnapping of children, and selling young girls into sex slavery.
The Bible addresses these subjects as prohibitions against murder (Ex. 20:13) and kidnapping (Ex. 21:16). At this moment in time, Muslims kill more people than the fictional Global Warming.
John Kerry appeals to the book of Genesis in an attempt to make his case. The atheists and evolutionists must be going crazy but I haven’t heard a peep out of them.
Genesis is the book of the Bible that tells us that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (1:1). I wonder what would happen if a public school teacher used the Bible as Kerry does to push the Global Warming agenda and another teacher used the Bible to teach that God is the creator of all things.
We know what would happen. The ACLU and the Freedom from Religion Foundation would make a bee line to the school boards and threaten to see in the second case but remain relatively quiet in the second case.
In fact, there can’t be a sound environmental philosophy given the worldview of raw materialism, a view that people like John Kerry espouses. This world matters because God gave values it (Gen. 1:31). “The earth is the LORD’s and all that it contains” (Ps. 24:1). As “fellow‑heirs with Christ” (Rom. 8:17), we possess, as a stewardship, this world. God’s gift of a good creation requires a righteous stewardship of that gift. The world and time are not to be despised since they are the domains of God’s redemptive work. Until God decides to do something with us personally (through death), this world and time are the only place where we can work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
There is no escaping some pollution and environmental damage, as Dr. Gary North points out in Authority and Dominion, the third volume in his commentary on the book of Exodus:
“There will always be some pollution where there is life. Francis Schaeffer wrote a book called Pollution and the Death of Man. I much prefer the title Pollution and the Life of Man. Pollution is inescapable. We are all polluters. We are all exhalers and excreters. What we need are legal and institutional arrangements that allow us as individuals to make our own decisions concerning what kind of pollution we are willing to put up with, and at what price.
“This is the legal and institutional framework that is produced by biblical law and free market economics. Each region selects a particular form of pollution in the quantity it can tolerate at prices it is willing to pay. Each community is forced to give up particular forms of a clean environment in exchange for other benefits. There are no free lunches in life; there are also no pollution-free environments. Scarcity is inescapable (Gen. 3:17-19). At zero price, there is always more demand for clean air and pure water than there is available supply.”
The problem we are facing today about the environment is that the topic has been polluted politically. Some people benefit when the claim is made that Global Warming is an established fact. Any dissenting opinion based on equally valid science is dismissed in order to maintain the status quo and flow of government money and entrenchment of political power.
There has been no appreciable change in temperature in the past 19 years.
“Since the turn of the century, there has been little increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s surface, new research claims.
“Previous studies claimed this hiatus has lasted for 15 years, but new research believes the temperature has remained almost constant since 1995.
“The conclusions were made by an economics professor who studied historical land and ocean temperatures for noticeable trends.”
These facts will not deter people like Kerry who is motivated solely by politics, but we wouldn’t anything less than an appeal to the religion of politics.
