Groups to deliver Ferguson petition to White House
BY SUSAN CRABTREE | AUGUST 27, 2014 | 11:43 AM

More than a dozen civil rights groups, faith leaders and activists plan to meet outside the White House Thursday to deliver a petition demanding that the Justice Department hold accountable all police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.

The groups, which include ColorofChange.org, Organization for Black Struggle, CREDO, MomsRising, MoveOn.org, among others, say they have gathered 900,000 signatures for a petition calling on President Obama and U.S. Attorney Eric Holder to fully investigate, prosecute and eventually fire all members of the police force that played a role in Brown’s killing.

The groups created the petition to ensure “justice for Michael” and “do everything in their power to reform policing policies and practices nationwide," according to a release about the event.

Others expected to participate include: Jamilah Nasheed, a Missouri state senator; black student leaders from Howard University; and the D.C. Youth Slam Team, a group that uses poetry and performance art to empower teens.

Earlier this month, a police officer shot Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black teen. His killing sparked weeks of protests and riots in Ferguson, as well as a national dialogue on the status of race relations in the country and whether the federal government has over-militarized local police.

Last week Holder traveled to Ferguson and promised a "fair and thorough" investigation into the circumstances surrounding Brown's death. The Justice Department has deployed approximately 40 FBI agents and several prosecutors from its civil rights division to Ferguson this month.

How many have been sent to Utah, where an unarmed white teenager was shot and killed by a black cop?

Was that a rhetorical question?

Sort of

But I am curious. Two mirror image cases at roughly the same time, and the Utah shooting (of a lad who didn't rob a convenience store) gets zero mention.

White guilt is the difference. When federal, state and city governments started using racial quotas and set-asides for jobs and college admissions it sealed the black community's fate. Merit went out the window and all men are created equal went out the door. All that matters now is, if you have enough melanin, you're in.

Where does this white guilt even come from?

It's not like slavery stopped after the Civil War. It's just that the slaves were not melanin based. You know all about the "company store." Henry Ford's utopia. It goes on and on.

Shame on you - you're thinking of the literal definition of slavery. That's not politically correct anymore.

Never mind that the reason it's called "slavery" is because the original slaves were slavic. Nor does anyone pay attention to the fact that many European immigrants to this country came as indentured servants (and, yes, I know those had a time limit on their service. My grandparents got here that way.) Nor does it matter that the slave traders were also Africans of color.

We have a narrative that suits the political purposes of a lot of powerful people, and I don't know that we can ever change that. Facts don't help.

Two generations after historic civil rights legislation and the war on poverty, the socioeconomic reality for blacks is still impeded. Something needs blaming. And so professionals like Sharpton found a lucrative business. He and others profit from white guilt and black bitterness.

The "something" that is to blame is the "historic civil rights legislation" that you refer to above.

The Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act were some of the most destructive and anti-American laws enacted in the Twentieth Century.

Fifty years later, we are reaping the whirlwind that was sown as seeds when they were passed.

Think NYC........Mayor Dinkins
Think New Orleans.......Mayor Nagin of chocolate city fame
Think Detroit............black Mayor raped the city and it's coffers
Think Philadelphia.....Mayor Wilson Goode burned down an entire block of row houses by dropping a bomb on the roof of one of the units.
