"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."
George Washington

The paramilitarization of police forces is about to come to a grinding halt.  As more and more information about how beefed up even small forces like Ferguson have become comes out, most voters are going to believe this is all a huge waste of money.

And it is.  The defense lobbyists will squeal, but that's too bad.

My town of 200,000 in suburban Orange County has used helicopters for decades, combining with one or two smaller towns, to operate a joint-services heliport, a small number of rotary wing craft etc.

The pilots often were trained during their military service, some already being retired.

Retire from military at age 45 as say an O4 (Major), then fly for a joint-service entity doing police work.

If they can I am sure they will opt for aircraft gifts from the fedgov.

Why in the air? Why use horses and dogs? Why cars and motorcycles?

I expect they are working on ways and means to bill for every call, every requested over flight.

It seems there wouldn't be a lot of coffee shops where they could take a break. :silly:

It gets in your blood. Flying choppers is more addictive than crack. May as well use it for good, right?
