ISIS Went from “Jayvee” to the Most “Sophisticated and Well-Funded” Terror Group in 7 Months?

Barack Obama and his team of dolts were roundly criticized after the president compared ISIS and similar offshoot terrorist groups to a “jayvee team” that “puts on Lakers uniforms.” But it’s actually hard to believe that it was only January of this year that he made that comparison. Imagine how poor the behind-the-scenes assessment must have been for Obama to settle on those remarks, only to have ISIS behead an American journalist barely half a year later. It’s horrifying, really. It’s why Dick Cheney believes with absolute certainty that another “mass casualty attack” on America is coming, and he predicts it will be far worse than 9/11. But regardless of your views on the former vice president, what Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel had to say about ISIS on Thursday was about as ominous as it gets.

“They’re beyond just a terrorist group. They marry ideology, a strategic and tactical military prowess,” said Hagel. “They are tremendously well funded. Oh, this is beyond anything that we’ve seen … we must prepare for everything, and the only way you do that is you take a cold, steely, hard look at it and get ready.” Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey concurred, adding that an Islamic caliphate established by ISIS would “fundamentally alter the face of the Middle East.”

It was striking to hear. I only wish we would have heard it from the president himself back in January, but he always has to learn his lessons the hard way. The tragic way.

And yet, he was warned by the ugly face of the enemy itself. In 2009, when Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was released from the largest U.S. detention camp in Iraq, he said simply, “I’ll see you guys in New York.” He later became the future leader of ISIS, and perhaps the most dangerous man in the world. Again, Obama’s “jayvee” remarks didn’t come until January of 2014, amid his countless assertions that “we’ve put al Qaeda on the path to defeat” and “the tide of war is receding.” All turned out to be miscalculations, if not outright lies.

So now, we have to prepare for a world with a threat to our own existence the likes of which we’ve never seen before. And consider this: we’ll be forced to fight this new enemy with a severely handicapped and downsized military that was ordered by none other than President Obama himself. Whomever takes over the Commander-in-Chief’s job two years from now has quite the full plate to look forward to. Let’s just hope we can actually survive another two years.
