Chicago Targeted by ISIS in Twitter Threat

Authorities are taking seriously the potential danger ISIS, the Islamist caliphate that has taken over much of Iraq, may pose inside the United States, particularly after the tweeting of photos showing hand-written threats in front of the White House and Chicago's Old Republic Building.

Chicago has become more of a terrorist target since Obama came into office, according to a CBS report, with Islamist groups often referring to the city as "Obama Town."

On Friday, the FBI issued an alert to law enforcement agencies urging them to be on the lookout for any activity that could indicate ISIS agents acting in their jurisdiction. The alert cites no specific threats but comes at a time when federal officials are stepping up the hunt for suspected ISIS sympathizers who have either traveled to the Mideast and returned or who may have slipped across the border, according to the Associated Press.

Retired Gen. John Allen wrote, "Make no mistake, the abomination of IS (Islamic State) is a clear and present danger to the U.S. The only question really is whether the U.S. and its allies and partners will act decisively now while they can still shape events to destroy IS, an act that seems increasingly self-obvious."

The specific threat toward the White House and Chicago made over Twitter seems to indicate that there are already ISIS agents, or at least sympathizers, operating in those cities.

The text of the message that accompanied the Twitter photos reads:

"#AmessagefromISIStoUS

We are in your state

We are in your cities

We are in your streets

You are our goals anywhere."

The message was sent on Twitter on August 9, while the handwritten note in one of the photos is dated June 20.

With the beheading of journalist James Foley, many media outlets are just now finally waking up to the importance of what's been going on in Iraq and the danger posed by ISIS.

Earlier this week, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said ISIS represents an "imminent threat to every interest we have."

It's interesting to note that in discussing ISIS, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the White House prefers simply IS, the Islamic State, or the more awkward translation ISIL, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. Some critics have suggested it's just President Obama trying to show how smart he supposedly is, as he is doing when pronouncing "Tah-lee-bahn" or "Pah-kee-stahn" instead of Taliban or Pakistan.

I have a different take. I think Obama's affectation stems from guilt and a desire to distance himself from his own mistakes in front of the American public. The rest of the world knows that Obama has for years been funding and arming "rebels" in Syria and that those rebels, armed with American weapons, now form the backbone of the ISIS army, and those funds have now gone to fund ISIS. Obama thinks that by not using the ISIS acronym which references Syria he might be able to pull the wool over Americans' eyes.

But Obama finds himself in a bind. I believe he secretly is rooting for ISIS, but Americans are so appalled at the Islamist barbarians' actions in beheading, crucifying and raping Christians (not just Yazidis, who seem to be the only Iraq minority the White House can remember) that there is no way he can justify not taking action, which would be his preference.

Obama's extended turns on the golf course of late aren't just laziness, they are avoidance. He senses that the more time he spends not on vacation, the more he will be pressured to take on ISIS. So far, he has only offered token resistance to the blood-drenched horde, whose evil antics have even gotten a rise out of the pope.

Obama doesn't want to fight a group he considers to be his people.

While the Department of Homeland Security is looking for ISIS sympathizers, it could look at the golf courses around Martha's Vineyard. There's at least one there that we know of.
