Did I not read correctly, wasn't he going to come home to DC on the 17 for a day? Wasn't he going to announce something or have meetings?

They were making such a big deal out of it. I am thinking they will hold off because of the 'gentle giant' riots.

Obama Heading Back To DC In Rare Break From Vacation

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — President Barack Obama is getting off the island.

In a rare move for him, the president planned a break in the middle of his Martha's Vineyard vacation to return to Washington on Sunday night for unspecified meetings with Vice President Joe Biden and other advisers.

The White House has been cagey about why the president needs to be back in Washington for those discussions.

Part of the decision appears aimed at countering criticism that Obama is spending two weeks on a resort island in the midst of so many foreign and domestic crises.

Yet those crises turned the first week of Obama's vacation into a working holiday. He made on-camera statements on U.S. military action in Iraq and the clashes between police and protesters in Ferguson, Missouri. He called foreign leaders to discuss the tensions between Ukraine and Russia, as well as between Israel and Hamas.

"I think it's fair to say there are, of course, ongoing complicated situations in the world, and that's why you've seen the president stay engaged," White House spokesman Eric Schultz said.

Obama is scheduled to return to Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday and stay through next weekend.

Even with though work has occupied much of Obama's first week on vacation, he still found plenty of time to golf, go to the beach with his family and go out to dinner on the island.

He also attended a birthday party for Democratic adviser Vernon Jordan's wife, where he spent time with former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

That get-together between the former rivals-turned-partners added another complicated dynamic to Obama's vacation. Just as Obama was arriving on Martha's Vineyard, an interview with the former secretary of state was published in which she levied some of her sharpest criticism of Obama's foreign policy.

Clinton later promised she and Obama would "hug it out" when they saw each other at Jordan's party. No reporters were allowed in, so it's not clear whether there was any hugging, but the White House said the president danced to nearly every song.

Doesn't all turn on whether he has time to fit it in with his golf schedule?

I doubt there are many golfers on a course when his nibs is playing.

I think he's going back to get Sasha. She can't fly on the helicopter or AF1 if he's not with her.

Yeah, he's narcissistic enough to clear the most expensive country club out on a busy Sunday and charge the taxpayers for the damages.

What, the most transparent administration isn't talking? I'd bet money that a meeting with Joltin' Joe Biden isn't really part of the agenda, though.

Obama on family vacation with just part of family
Associated Press via Yahoo News
By DARLENE SUPERVILLE
August 18, 2014 3:21 AM

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — President Barack Obama started his vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard with just one of his daughters, and he may leave with just one of his daughters when the two-week getaway ends next weekend. In a first for Obama family summer vacations, neither teenager is spending the entire holiday with her father.

Obama left Washington Aug. 9 with his wife, Michelle, daughter Malia, and the family's two Portuguese water dogs. The White House said 13-year-old Sasha would join her parents at a later date for "part of their stay" on this quaint island of shingled homes. But Malia will not be around when her younger sister arrives.

The daughters essentially are trading places, and the vacation is boiling down to Obama getting about a week with each one.

Malia, 16, returned to Washington with her father early Monday and was not expected to go back to Martha's Vineyard. The White House said Sasha will join her parents this week, without saying when she will arrive or what kept her away last week, or why Malia left the island.

Obama often draws chuckles from sympathetic parents who understand his complaints about his girls' lack of interest in spending time with him.

"What I'm discovering is that each year, I get more excited about spending time with them. They get a little less excited," Obama told CNN last year.

Obama plans to return to Martha's Vineyard on Tuesday evening, after leaving the island midway through the getaway to spend two days in meetings at the White House. Vacation ends Aug. 24.

The girls' absence from the vacation is yet another reminder of the time that has passed since Obama became president. Ages 10 and 7, respectively, when they moved to the White House in 2009, Malia and Sasha are older now and increasingly leading busy lives apart from their parents.

Last summer, the president and first lady were first to arrive on the island for vacation. The daughters came together later in the week for the tail end.

While Obama is in Washington on Monday and Tuesday, he is supposed to meet with White House staffers who stayed in town. He'll also meet over lunch with Vice President Joe Biden, who has taken several vacations in recent weeks with his wife, Jill, to Wyoming and to beaches on New York's Long Island and in Delaware.

Word that Obama was interrupting his vacation to return to Washington set off a guessing game after White House spokesman Josh Earnest initially declined to state a reason. Earnest later said the interruption was so the president could attend "in-person" meetings with staff.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz last week sought to further dampen the speculation, saying "we don't anticipate any major, significant news developments out of Washington those few days." Schultz also ruled out an announcement by Obama on using his presidential powers to make changes to the immigration system.

Obama's retreat to Martha's Vineyard was not the first family vacation without Sasha. In June, Sasha skipped a family Father's Day weekend in Southern California.

It's telling that the girls don't want to spend quality vacation time with their old dad.  They don't seem to like him much.

Remember how they complained that he stinks? The Mooch has been fairly invisible lately, too.

The girls never look happy when I see pictures of them.  I feel sorry for them, they can't help who their parents are.

And I can imagine what hanging around with Barack must be like - the smell of cigarettes, pot and meth must be nauseating to them.

To be fair, he only stinks if you don't like the smell of sulfur.
