Wednesday night’s packed school board meeting in Fremont, Calif. was a lot more exciting than usual as parents showed up in droves to express their displeasure over a ninth-grade health textbook that introduces 13- and 14-year-old students to dildos, Internet dating advice, porn and, of course, bondage.

A large number of parents officially showed up to present around 3,800 petition signatures objecting to the adoption of the 392-page college-level textbook entitled “Your Health Today” for a semester-long ninth-grade course required for graduation.

During the meeting, even more embarrassing information about the book came out, according to a press release from the Pacific Justice Institute, a conservative legal defense organization.

Turns out, the content of the textbook is so raunchy that it requires officials in the Bay Area district to disable school Internet porn filters so that electronic versions of the book won’t be automatically blocked.

At the meeting, Fremont school district superintendent James Morris bizarrely suggested that perhaps the taxpayer-funded school district should create an “honors” sex education class. The special students chosen for that advanced course could then continue to use the textbook — and learn about sex toys, bondage, etc.

The school board ultimately voted to stop using the controversial textbook for mandatory ninth-grade coursework. There will be no “honors” sex ed class for ninth graders, either. However, the board did leave open the possibility of an elective course for juniors and seniors.

Several school district employees and a narrow majority of school board members had vigorously supported the use of the textbook because, they said, 14-year-old kids need to know about sex, bondage and various vibrating sex toys several years before college.

Impressed school district health teachers unanimously chose the textbook for their 2,400 ninth-grade charges. The school board narrowly voted 3-2 to adopt it. (RELATED: Sex Ed For Ninth Graders Now Features Sex Toys, Oral Sex And, Of Course, BONDAGE)

“We really want them to have a safe place to get facts about their bodies and how to handle things and how they need to be mature to deal with these things,” Fremont Unified School District board president Lara Calvert-York told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Michele Hartmangruber, who works at a Fremont high school, also heartily endorsed the book’s raunchy contents.

“I want to let everyone know, if you think sex isn’t happening with your freshmen, you need to take your blinders off,” she had said at a June school board meeting. “It’s happening, and it’s happening in the corners, in the bathrooms, in the cars, in the parks and even on the 50-yard line in front of everyone.”

Thus, Hartmangruber concluded, “You have to educate at the ninth-grade level.”

At Wednesday’s board meeting, Pacific Justice Institute president Brad Dacus spoke, stressing his contention that the board acted illegally when it adopted the book with improper notice and without proper parental input.

“We will continue to work with the parents of Fremont to push the district to fully comply with the law,” Dacus said. “This battle is strong evidence that, even in places like the Bay Area, parents are fed up with the extreme sexualization of our children by educrats.”

California state education standards direct that children in the state must begin learning about the birds and the bees in fifth grade. Mandated subject matter includes the changes that occur during puberty and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases.

Fremont’s textbook goes well beyond the state standards and is not used in any other California school districts. It is most frequently used by professors in college-level health classes.
