I don't think I'm ready to become a Republican yet (although despite their lack of solutions, I still find myself rooting for the Republicans in the midterm elections for the first time I can recall).

And there it is. The statist GOP has moved left of center, and the Democrats have moved even further left. Americans 40 and up don't recognize either party and feel unrepresented. If the GOP was even marginally competent, they would clobber the communists in the Democrat party.

The sole purpose of the Republican Party is to serve as an ineffective alternative to the Democrat Party.

Any republican could write a similar tale. It's not the parties that are amiss. It's the system that has been hijacked by corrupt politicians on both sides of the aile and in the WH as well as a judiciary that has been so politicized that law and justice mean nothing, not to mention the constitution.

I was a Democrat because I believed in civil rights, like Lyndon Johnson. I was a Democrat because while it was clear to me that the Republican politicians were out of touch and cared for only the upper class, Democrats like Franklin Roosevelt cared for the masses and helping the working man. I was a Democrat because I believed in a strong defense and opposed communism, like John F. Kennedy. And I was a Democrat because I loved the fact that Kennedy understood we needed lower marginal tax rates.

Lyndon Johnson was a hardcore racist who only believed in civil rights for political reasons.  FDR didn't give a rip about the "working man," he just wanted political party.  He might be right about JFK, who did believe in a strong defense and oppose communism......as opposed to his younger brother Teddy, hero of the left, who preferred the Soviet Union to Ronald Reagan.

To stay a Democrat for so long as a patriot, one must be deeply deluded, but I'm glad that some of the scales have come off Piscopo's eyes.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

May 3, 2016 - the day the Republican party left ME.  I am now without a Party, and quite possibly without a country.  May God have mercy!
