Man Wanted for War Crimes Caught Crossing Border Illegally from Canada

In what should be a big wake-up call for anyone who cares about the security of our nation, a wanted accused war criminal was caught sneaking illegally into the United States across our northern border from Canada.
Jean Leonard Tegnaya was captured on August 3rd, when he was being processed for illegally entering into the United States; authorities discovered that Canada had issued a warrant for the man’s deportation to Rwanda. He was to face charges of alleged human right’s violations under the Crimes against Humanity and the War Crimes Act.
How was the alleged war criminal caught? Was it by the good work of our intelligence forces keeping an eye out for bad guys trying to get into our country? Maybe it was the hard work of border officials who were vigilantly guarding our borders?
teganyaaLucky for us, some guy saw Teganya skulking through the woods near the border and acting suspiciously. Even luckier, that random citizen decided to call authorities and report the “suspicious” man.
If not for random happenstance and the sheer fortune that someone was willing to call the cops when he saw someone hiking through the woods, this wanted man would probably be hiding out in Boston by now.
Which brings us to what Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) had to say about the whole thing.
“This is a good reminder that people who are wanted for war crimes, who are prohibited from entering this country, who may seek to harm us through a terrorist attack may exploit the vulnerabilities of the northern border as well,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told WABI-TV.
Yes. Exactly and terrifyingly correct, Senator Collins.
Our border with Canada is the world’s longest unguarded border, and it is a sign of the amity between our two nations. Sadly, it may also be a weakness in our fight against terrorism. We must rely on the vigilance of our Canadian brethren for our own safety. While they may be up for the task, it’s not their job. It’s the job of our government.
Perhaps, if our government focused on what it was mandated by our Constitution to do, we wouldn’t have to worry. But that isn’t the world we live in, is it? If our government worried less about mandating healthcare coverage, regulating businesses, deciding who should get married or writing hundreds of new laws each year… they would have more time to focus on protecting our borders and defeating Islamic terrorism.
