Cartoon Network’s Racist and Blasphemous ‘Black Jesus’

Hollywood, Calif. – The Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC), an advocacy group promoting quality Christian entertainment, is organizing a protest against the Cartoon Network’s new controversial program, 'Black Jesus.'

The live-action program begins airing Thursday in the Cartoon Network’s controversial “Adult Swim” block of unrated, often obscene cartoons and live-action comedies.

The program’s Jesus character uses “f” words, smokes marijuana and drinks to excess. One preview of the show, with bleeped out “f” words, advertises “the most anticipated comeback in history.” It also says viewers should “Get ready to feel the spirit of the glory of the most high,” with black gospel music in the background.

Dr. Ted Baehr, chairman and founder of CFTVC, said his group is sending a petition to Turner Broadcasting chief John Martin, asking him to cancel the program, which he feels is not only blasphemous but also racist.

“This program isn’t a case of accidental offense,” Dr. Baehr said. “It’s a very purposeful mockery and ridicule of African Americans, Jesus Christ and Christianity.”

He noted that, on its official website, Turner Broadcasting promises to honor “diversity” and “respect” a “multiplicity of voices,” but seems to be violating those principles in giving the go-ahead for 'Black Jesus.'

Author of “The Culture-Wise Family” and “How To Succeed in Hollywood (Without Losing Your Soul),” Dr. Baehr is chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) and its family guide to movies and entertainment, Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org). CFTVC and Movieguide® are an international, non-profit ministry dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”

Oh, for Pete's sake!

It's on Adult Swim. Of course it is going to be crass, offensive, and tasteless. That's the whole damned point of that block. Don't like it? Vote with your remote.

Obviously. But that doesn't mean we can't point out the blasphemy, even to deaf ears.

True. But we are defending the one being that really does not need our help. Let them mock, if they wish, while they have the chance. Our Lord has no problem separating the sheep from the goats.

LOL, yep. It is the same night as The Boondocks which has more N words than a 2Pac album. I thought Black Jesus was pretty funny. Sacrilegious yes, but really funny.

I prefer Robot Chicken. Ridiculous, but really well done.
