by Charlie Spiering 1 Aug 2014, 10:37 AM PDT

The often outspoken Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), blasted Republicans for their efforts to address the border crisis, saying that they had reached the “least common denominator of hatefulness.”

Gutierrez made his comments during a press conference with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

During his remarks, he warned Republicans that Hispanics in America would never forget the tough legislation proposed by Republicans in upcoming elections.

“The way you treat one of us today is the way you have treated all of us, and we will remember that,” he said. “Not only do they treat the children, that are in such need of protection, it is almost as though they despise and hate all of our children.”

Gutierrez defended President Obama’s 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) decision. Since Obama was re-elected, Gutierez insisted it was clear that “the American people thought it was a good decision.”

Gutierrez indicated that he was deeply upset that anti-amnesty group of House Republicans was successful in influencing the House bill.

“Apparently the loudest, meanest, most vile voices are the ones that are dominating the caucus, and that’s unfortunate.” he said.

“Let me also say that look unfortunately, the way they speak about a community, it is almost as if the children, we are a vile, repugnant community to them, that they vilify and demonize in every one of their statements,” he said calling it a “sad commentary” on the Republican party.

How do you effectively respond to this constant misportrayed, deceit?

Do you weigh the source, hoping it doesn't "go viral"?   Or, do you fall into their trap in their attempt to enrage you/us....by calling them out.

It's an argument you can't win.  They are using children as human shields to emulate the final days of Rome, when the "barbarians" overran them?

This is just a continuation of their successful campaigns beginning in 2007.  The GOP wars on women, blacks, Hispanics, gays, the poor...and now children.  The Dems really have no success stories, so for at least the next two election cycles, these will be their campaign themes.  It immediately puts the Repubs on the defensive.

Ad hominem arguments are most effective against those who refuse to defend themselves by any means other than simple denial.

The problem with most Republicans in public life is that they accept personal insults either with silent acceptance or mumbling disapproval, rather than with honest and deserved anger.

It is (almost) as though they believe their opponents are right.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

But we're talking about filling up the low-information voter with bad data.  And they're experts at riling up the masses on social media.

It's why I go back to pleading for one damned highly respected Democrat Senator to cross over in a public criticism of what his party and this administration is doing to America.

And to the Middle Class.  And to Small Business.

The highly respected Democrat senators...who are they?  Those running in November, who are not far left are probably going to keep relatively quiet to keep their financial support.  Not too many Liebermans around.

And while Obama's approvals are in the tank, Dems believe they can not only run against the Republicans for their faux wars on everyone, but also some issues, including immigration, the wealth gap, the government shutdown, the alleged do-nothing congress, and gun control.

And with little more than 90 days left, Republicans are still very much divided on many of the same issues, with some charging extremism on the right, and others charging the alleged "squishy" moderates with being Democrat lite.

All things being equal, the GOP should easily win both Houses, but everything isn't equal.  Republicans need to bury the hatchet not in each other, but in the Democrats.  They need to quickly agree in principle on issues and go after the Dems like this is the most important election ever.  And it is.

That's truly a question with no answer...
