Which is why the democrats are so desperately hoping the republicans are stupid enough to impeach Obama.

Because they have ample evidence, from the mouths of the very Republicans they are trying to instigate?

No Republican in any position of authority has said impeachment is on the table.  It's rabble-rousers like Levin and Palin and a few House members.  Even Cruz hasn't jumped on this bandwagon.

Which is how you KNOW it's way off in the weeds.

I certainly hope it is.  That being said, the democrats live or die on lo-info voters (as well as voter fraud) and even if responsible republicans have no intention of impeaching, continued chatter/demands for impeachment from a significant part of the base will still be a useful rallying point for the democrats.  In fact, here's a pitch:
Quote
Dear voter, the republicans are making a hash of things in D.C.  They've frustrated the president's attempts to fix the economy at every turn.  And things will only get worse if they manage to fool the voters into giving them control of Congress because they will use that control to impeach the president.  Everything will come to a complete standstill while they waste time trying to attack President Obama personally by impeaching him.  Send the republicans a message, that we want Congress to pay attention to the Nation's problems, not vindictively attack the president who has tried to do so much to fix those problems.  Vote for [name of local democrat candidate here].
