US Releases Armed Mexican Police Who Strayed Into Texas

Sharyl Attkisson reports that the US Customs and Border Patrol has released three Mexican police officers who strayed into Texas while pursuing cop killer suspects. The officers were armed with AR-15 rifles and Beretta 9-mm pistols.
The three claim to have had “tunnel vision” during the pursuit, when they walked across a dry section of riverbed from Juarez to El Paso. They were pursuing suspects who had shot and killed a police officer and wounded another during an ambush close to the border. A 16-year-old girl was also wounded in the firefight. The officers strayed into Texas Wednesday, and have already been released. The suspects have apparently not been caught.
Attkisson notes how differently the US treated the armed Mexican police officers, versus how Mexico continues to treat a US Marine.
Their prompt release contrasts with the case of U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, a 26-year old Afghanistan war veteran, who has been held in a Mexican jail since March after he reportedly took a wrong turn and was stopped at the San Ysidro border crossing in Mexico while carrying three registered guns in his pickup truck.
Tahmooressi was not on duty or in uniform, but also did not intend to break any laws. He did not even intend to enter Mexico. He alerted Mexican authorities immediately after he made the wrong turn into Mexico, and was quickly jailed.
According to Rep. Duncan Hunter, Wednesday’s incursion by armed Mexican officers into the United States is one of about 300 that occur each year.
Mexico’s violent drug war frequently spills over into Texas. There is no corresponding violence that spills over from the US side into Mexico.
