Nevada Does in Debbie

DNC Chair's false statement about Brian Sandoval fact-checked on air

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) was fact-checked on the air with Nevada television journalist Jon Ralston after she made a false claim about the state’s Republican Governor Brian Sandoval.

Schultz had said she had confidence the Supreme Court would eventually rule in favor of Obamacare after dueling federal appellate court rulings on whether individuals who bought insurance on the federal exchange rather than the state one may receive government subsidies.

“Just take a state like Nevada, where you have a governor who refused to implement a state exchange and as a result people who get Affordable Care Act healthcare plans are getting them on the federal exchange,” she said.

“Let me just stop you for a second, because you’re misinformed about that,” Ralston said. “Brian Sandoval put in a state exchange. He did, so whoever briefed you on that is wrong. He did put in a state exchange. He was the first Republican governor to do that.”

“Ok,” she said. “That’s not even the point I’m making. I stand corrected. I’m not from Nevada.”

There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be to trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.
Public virtue cannot exist in a nation without private, and public virtue is the only foundation of republics. There must be a positive passion for the public good, the public interest, honour, power and glory, established in the minds of the people, or there can be no republican government, nor any real liberty: and this public passion must be superior to all private passions. Debbie never let the facts get in the way of a good opinion...
