GOP pushes to 'fire Harry Reid'

By Mario Trujillo

The Republican National Committee is launching a campaign to "fire Harry Reid" that attempts to tie Democratic Senate candidates to the Senate majority leader.

The RNC announced Monday it would target 12 states with robocalls and push a social media campaign to brand the Nevada Democrat as the face of Senate inaction.

The effort mirrors a similar RNC campaign in 2010 to "fire Nancy Pelosi" ahead of the midterm elections, when Republicans won back control of the House.

Republicans accuse Reid of blocking dozens of bills in the upper chamber, including one to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. The calls also hit Democrats on the healthcare law.

In a twist, Republicans blast Democrats as being beholden to billionaire and Democratic donor Tom Steyer in their opposition to the Keystone pipeline.

Reid has attempted to tie Republicans to billionaires Charles and David Koch over the past year.

"President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have blocked hundreds of bills that would spur job creation," the robocall script reads. "Their partisan agenda has caused our healthcare costs to skyrocket. Their environmentalist billionaire backers won't let the Keystone pipeline bring affordable energy to our state."

The calls will run in Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota and Virginia.

“If you’re frustrated by ObamaCare, ready to build the Keystone pipeline, or just tired of the gridlock in the U.S. Senate, there’s a very simple solution: fire Harry Reid,” RNC chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.

This would've been nice two years ago.

Of course, you have to explain the mechanism, too. Not just "Fire Reid." "Fire Reid, Elect ____" (the Republican candidate).

Otherwise, it's just going to be another example of (as another poster puts it), “Reince, Fail, Repeat.”
