James Garner - one of the memorable ones.  RIP.
For the progressive, there is very little to love about the United States. Washington, Jefferson, Madison? A bunch of rotten slaveholders, hypocrites, and cowards even when their hearts were in the right places. The Declaration of Independence? A manifesto for the propertied classes. The Constitution? An artifact of sexism and white supremacy. The sacrifices in the great wars of the 20th century? Feeding the poor and the disenfranchised into the meat-grinder of imperialism. The gifts of Carnegie, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Morgan, Astor? Blood money from self-aggrandizing robber barons. Nat Rev

The Notebook was a good picture. Like so many men, Garner saved the Best for Last.

Yes, very true.  It was actually his voice in that story that was so soothing and comforting.

That makes me sad, James Garner was one of my favorite actors - he was one of those people that you just knew you would like in real life.

RIP James Garner, well done!

Another good one gone.

So that's two in one day.  Who will be #3?

Skye McCole Bartusiak, she played Mel Gibson's younger daughter in "The Patriot" and was also in Season 2 of "24".  She was only 21.

Thanks. I see she also played the girl in the Micheal Douglas movie, Don't Say A Word. She was real good in that one.

I don't think she was "THE" girl in that movie.

That was Brittany Murphy, who also died far too young.

I was reading Garner's Wikipedia article, and came across a little nugget about him being a Democrat. His reason?

"My wife would kill me if I became a Republican."

Rest assured, I wouldn't be surprised if his wife is making sure he stays on the voter rolls.

When I have a bad day at work a  line I use  a lot from his movie, Support Your Local Sheriff:-  "I'm just passing through on my way to Australia" .     Well Mr. Garner, you finally made it. Throw some shrimp on the Barbie and relax in peace. Thanks for a lifetime of great entertainment.
