Texas Sen. Ted Cruz confirmed Thursday that he will be joining Glenn Beck and Mercury One at the border in McAllen, Texas, on Saturday to feed, clothe, and provide toys for illegal immigrant children.

Catherine Frazier, a spokeswoman for the senator, told TheBlaze in an email: “Tens of thousands of children are being smuggled into the United States by dangerous drug cartels and transnational gangs – it is heartless to allow that to continue.”

“But while we work to reverse the policies that have caused this tragedy, it is important we recognize the human element of this crisis, and Sen. Cruz is glad to join Glenn Beck and Mercury One in that effort to provide some relief from the suffering this administration is causing,” Frazier continued.

Joe Kerry, president of Mercury One, added: “Mercury One is blessed to have both Glenn Beck and Senator Ted Cruz participate in our border relief effort.”

Cruz will join fellow lawmaker Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) in McAllen. Others who have voiced support for the cause include Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and famed rocker Ted Nugent.

“Through no fault of their own, they are caught in political crossfire,” Beck said of the children when he announced the event. “And while we continue to put pressure on Washington and change its course of lawlessness, we must also help. It is not either, or. It is both. We have to be active in the political game, and we must open our hearts.”

I think this is a humanitarian effort and the right thing to do.  I'm glad to see Sen. Cruz involve himself in this.  He is right, this is the fault of our leaders and the children are innocent victims, if they are hungry, sick or frightened - they need to be fed, healed and comforted - BEFORE they are sent back to their homes.

I hope that Glenn Beck, Mercury One and the others who are going down there are able to shine a spotlight on this situation and show everyone what Obama has wrought.

I read the comments.  Reading them, I forgot for a minute and thought I was on TOS.  Disgusting.  This is why conservatives have such a hard time winning elections - there's always the circular firing squad.

Anyway, I'm posting one of the comments - one of the very few that I agree with:

You guys are missing a major part of what Glenn is (and has been) saying…

You can and should be compassionate to people while you are demanding justice from the government.

Ask an army doc if he ever treated the wounds of an enemy combatant, then ask him why he didn’t just let him bleed to death.

Ask any paramedic if they ever treated a criminal’s wounds.

Chances are they’ll tell you ‘because it was the right thing to do’.

I applaud Glenn and all those involved in showing mercy to those in need while waiting for the slow wheels of justice to turn.

You may ask, ‘what about all of the Americans who need help? Why not help them first?

My answer would be – Glenn has helped many Americans through his charity, check the Mercury One website."

The problem is, Beck wants amnesty for these kids, and illegals in general.  Cruz should tell Beck to go kiss up to the invaders on his own.

It seems they both agree these kids are pawns in a battle and deserve compassion.  Big ups for Beck and Cruz for their charity.  I approve.

And tomorrow you'll be back to posting your usual anti-Cruz dribble.  You only care because he is doing something that is what the RINOs like you support, giving amnesty to illegals.

Every one of these invaders needs to be sent back at once.  They are nothing but disease factories spreading only God knows what across the country.  Obama is conducting biological warfare on the American people, and people like Beck are supporting it.

Beck does NOT want amnesty.  I heard him say with my own ears that they must be sent back.  He essentially expressed the same viewpoint as Sen. Cruz:

Totally in favor of this.

The rights and wrongs of the kids being here can be debated until the cows come home.

The fact that they ARE here is indisputable. They are also people - not pawns. Treating them as people (NOT CITIZENS) is simply the decent thing to do.

I support compassion for children, and I support Cruz leading the call for charity.  This is the action I expect from a President.  Obama can't even stop in.

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Worthless ignorant hogwash.  I'm stupider for having read it.  It's the same lie used to pass The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.

One way to get them sent back is "don't feed 'em". Instead, load their asses on a C5 Starlifter or C 130 with a fighter escort, and dump them in Mexico. Oh yeah, and have a couple of A 10s blow the RR lines. WE didn't ask 'em here. We don't need them. And if they want to use kids [although I see the WH understated the numbers of families or adults by a factor of five] as pawns, tough on the kids. Stop sending mixed signals. Re-deploy them south. And then send their 30 million buddies after them. Enough!

Look, here's the deal: America is being invaded, and it needs to stop.

If it takes 300,000 troops to guard the border while a double-layered fence is constructed, then so be it. The cost of continuing the status quo - an effectively open
border - will bankrupt the nation, not in the long run, but in the near future. The truth is, we're almost there already.

But what we are facing is also a humanitarian crisis in which innocent children and their desperate parents are being used as pawns. It is entirely fitting for private charitable organizations to offer food, clothing, medicine and temporary shelter for these kids, at least until as many as possible can be reunited back home, with their parents.

I agree with all of you that fences need to be built and more enforcement added.  All of these people, including the children, need to be sent back home IMMEDIATELY.  People should only come into our country that go through the legal channels, I think that the legal immigration part of it is what needs to be fixed.  I know people that have gone through it and it is almost unreasonable in the time it takes and the expense of it.  It is difficult, and I can see why people that can't afford to are so tempted to just sneak across - ESPECIALLY when we see so many employers willing to hire them under the table.

The legal system begets it's own problems and that is what needs to be addressed.

However, we have to deal with the reality on the ground as it is right now, and right now there are small children from another place being transported in groups all over the country - in many cases to be handed over to strangers that claim to be their "family".  The potential for child abuse is an absolute given.  The most terrible thing is that this is a MANUFACTURED crisis by Obama & Co!

The second most terrible thing is that people within the Republican party (the party that is supposed to be an opposition party   :silly:) are afraid to do much of anything in opposition to this.  I don't think it is very realistic for us to think that any of the fixes I listed in my first paragraph are going to be instituted anytime in the near future.  I can imagine the GOP is at wit's end right now with this crisis - busy consulting fortunetellers and studying chicken entrails to try to come up with a PR plan that doesn't make them look like heartless hypocrites that want to turn children back to a country where their "lives are in danger".  They just want to get through this next election, but this is just an early volley in the Democrat's plan to keep the Senate this Fall.  Make no mistake, more is to come.

So, talk tough if you want to (I see plenty of that swagger at FR) - but you and I both know these stop-gaps and preventatives are not going to happen anytime soon - not under the current leadership, but these children are here now.  Charities should definitely step up and expose to the world what is going on.  The truth about what Obama & Co have done needs to be exposed for the world to see.  Yes, I know it is a photo-op situation too - but isn't that what PR is all about?  Isn't PR a way to get your message out there?

One thing that I'm hoping the Beck/Cruz visit to the border will do is to give them a more accurate picture of who these illegal immigrants are, and maybe a better understanding of why they came. We've heard so many conflicting stories. There have been a few whistleblowers who make all of the official stories look false. So far, no one outside the administration has been able to visit.

I really don't believe any of what they tell us, except that there are large numbers of people crossing the border. Probably >100,000.
Some are unaccompanied minors. But how many are there of those, and how many of those are teen-aged gang members?
How many came to escape crime and poverty, and how many came because they thought they were "invited"? How many came to join relatives already here? How many are carrying diseases?
