President Barack Obama addressed the downing of a Malaysian Airlines jet prior to a planned speech in Delaware, and his 40 seconds of remarks is tragic.

The Boeing 777 passenger plane with 295 people on board (awful!) went down while flying over Ukraine, near the Russian border.

Obama was in Wilmington to speak on infrastructure – after a photo op at a burger joint – and just started the conversation about the flight. (It was hardly a Reagan-esque moment.)

There must be a positive passion for the public good, the public interest, honour, power and glory, established in the minds of the people, or there can be no republican government, nor any real liberty: and this public passion must be superior to all private passions.
