See - there is a rule. It's simple, obvious, and illegal as hell. bleep that do that get killed hard enough that their grand fathers probably feel the kick in the balls. It's an odd thing. No one ever thinks of soldiers as being hugely protective of kids. Yet we are, to a person. Even people who dislike kids, don't want kids, can or will never have kids go into full on protective mode. I have seen a friend who is a/ gay and b/ totally hates children pick up a toddler and stash it inside his body armor in the middle of a run.
A run is not the nice little jog in the park you may be visualizing. It's a full on operation with various screaming, dying and trying not to get shot. So stopping in the middle of that, adjusting your armor and stuffing a complaining kid in is what you might call a none trivial response.
