exas blues legend Johnny Winter, known for his collaborations with the likes of Jimi Hendrix and childhood hero Muddy Waters, has died at the age of 70.

His representative, Carla Parisi, confirmed today that Winter died in a hotel room in Zurich, Switzerland, on Wednesday. There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

Winter was a leading light among the white blues guitar players, including Eric Clapton and the late Stevie Ray Vaughan, who followed in the footsteps of the earlier Chicago blues masters.

Plenty of white blues people from late 60s to early 70s, including Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, Paul Butterfield, John Mayall, etc.

Oh yes!  They just wrapped up the Waterfront Blues Festival here in Portlandia, and there is still a very strong, strong Rhythm and Blues culture with artists all over the Country.  They go on down there for days, and some of my favorite CDs are compilations from the Blues Fest....

Johnny will be missed, but he had an outstanding run....

Rest...

Damn. Only the good die young, I guess, and he had a lot more years left in him.  **nononono*
