University Contract Details Hillary Clinton Speech Demands

On top of the $225,000 she is charging the UNLV Foundation to speak at an event in October, former first lady Hillary Clinton is requiring an additional $1,250 to pay for a stenographer to transcribe her speech and may request a teleprompter if she so chooses.

Those stipulations and others, including restrictions on the press, are included in a contract obtained by The Daily Caller between the university and the Harry Walker Agency, which is handling Clinton’s speaking tour.

Clinton has come under fire recently for some of her speeches, particularly those she has given to colleges and universities. Though most of her speaking fees have gone to her family’s non-profit foundation, the former first lady has been criticized for gouging the schools.

And the contract for the Oct. 13 speech for the UNLV Foundation — which will be held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas — shows that on top of that, she is picky.

“The Sponsor agrees to pay a fee of $1,250 for the services of a stenographer, who will be onsite at the event,” reads the contract, signed on May 13. “The stenographer will transcribe Speaker’s remarks as they are being delivered, which shall be solely for the Speaker’s records.”

Clinton’s speech and a moderated question-and-answer session will last 60 minutes total.

As part of the contract, two event staffers will be dispatched three days in advance of the speech.

The contract also gives the agency and Clinton final approval of the event program, all advertisements contained in it, and all additional event sponsors. Clinton will also be given final approval over who gets to introduce her to the crowd.

“It is agreed that [Clinton] will be the only person on stage during her remarks. The Speaker may request that Sponsor pay for an provide a glass panel teleprompter and a qualified operator,” the contract reads.

Clinton will also be given final approval of a moderator used in the question-and-answer session. Audience questions must also be relayed to Clinton through the approved moderator, according to the contract. Whether or not that is meant to buffer any difficult questions is unclear. The UNLV Foundation told TheDC that it could not comment on the arrangements as they were still being finalized.

 
Clinton also agreed to a 30-minute photoline, which will take place before her remarks. But strict rules apply to it as well.

It is “not to exceed 50 photos with up to 100 people,” the contract reads.

“It is understood and agreed that the photographer will take one (1) photo of each person or couple participating in the photoline. It is understood and agreed that the Sponsor will provide each of the photoline attendees with a copy of the photo to their personal use only. The Sponsor is also required to communicate to the photoline attendees that the photo is for private, personal use only and that the photo cannot be used in any way to imply any kind of endorsement of an entity, individual, product or service. Any use of the photo that suggests or implies any such endorsement is forbidden.”

Clinton’s press agency will also maintain strict control over the event’s optics.

It has sole discretion over any “sets, backdrops, banners, scenery, logos, settings, etc which are in any way related to her speech or any other activities associated with the Speaker’s appearance,” the contract reads, opening up the likelihood that Clinton’s latest book, “Hard Choices,” could be featured prominently at the event.

“Speaker’s participation at the event including the speech and reception will be closed to the press, unless otherwise agreed to in writing,” the contract stipulates. “There will be no other media opportunities or availabilities (i.e.. press conferences, statements. etc.).”

The contract also requires the event sponsor to reserve 20 seats for Clinton’s staff and guests. “These seats should all be together in the priority seating area,” the contract reads. Should those guests pose for pictures with Clinton, they will not count against the 50 photographs allowed for event attendees.

The Washington Post published details of a similar contract between Clinton and Buffalo University on Wednesday. Clinton is charging the school $275,000 for that event.

In both events, Clinton’s speaking fee will go to the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation.

Former Secretary of State and almost-certain 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton not only demanded $275,000 to speak at the University of Buffalo, her nine-page contract is filled with the kinds of demands that Pop Divas like Madonna are regularly mocked for.

According to documents obtained by the Washington Post, on top of that mammoth speaking fee, Clinton's contract demands…

…the university provide "a presidential glass panel teleprompter and a qualified operator," that Clinton's office have "final approval" of her introducer and the moderator of any question-and-answer session, as well as "the sets, backdrops, banners, scenery, logos, settings, etc," and that the topic and length of the former secretary of state's speech would be at her "sole discretion."

Nothing about bathing in Evian water or a bowl of M&M's with the green ones removed, but there is this:

The contract also required that the university pay a fee of $1,000 to have a stenographer transcribe Clinton's speech, but that the transcript be "solely for [Clinton's] records," and that the university was not permitted to tape the speech.

Clinton has attempted to tamp down the uproar over her greedy  cash grab from a number of public universities with the claim that she donated all of her speaking fees to charity -- the charity of course being the Clinton Foundation. That likely means she is able to keep the money close and still write it off as a charitable tax deduction.

The rich get richer.

Two important points to keep in mind… First, the media is going through the paces of somewhat vetting Hillary two years before the presidential election so that in 2016 they can dismiss Clinton scandals as old news and concentrate on clubbing the "sexist" Republican nominee to death like a baby seal.

Secondly, although Clinton's 9 page diva contract is satiric gold, don't look for Jon Stewart, "Saturday Night Live" or any of America's other media-approved comedians to mine it.

Just as we have seen with Obama the last 6 years, the Celebrity Groupthink Rules are that any comedy that could potentially undermine the image of a Democrat is verboten.

To be fair to the various pop and rock divas who get mocked - a couple of silly clauses are put into every single contract as a way of ensuring the thing is actually read instead of ignored like an EULA.

It costs $500K to bring your kids to dinner with the Clintons

A mogul spent six figures to win lunch for two with Bill and Hillary Clinton at a charity auction benefiting the Clinton Foundation — but when the winner asked to bring his two kids along, he was told he’d have to double his bid to $1 million.

Spies said Charitybuzz CEO Coppy Holzman was talking about the recent Clinton auction hosted by his Web site at a swanky Hamptons Magazine party for ArtHamptons last Friday.

One witness said Holzman regaled guests with a tale that “lunch for two with Bill and Hillary went for $500,000 to benefit the Clinton Foundation.” And the winning bid came from “a Chinese business mogul who then asked if he could bring his two children along to the meeting.”

But, our spy said, the high bidder was then told by the Clinton camp he could only bring his kids for a cool $1 million.

“The couple opted to leave the children at home,” the source cracked.

The estimated value of the lot to spend “45 minutes to 1 hour” with the Clintons was $250,000, according to Charitybuzz’s site. If the $500,000 winner of the May 29 auction even gets a full hour with the Clintons, that’s $8,333.33 per minute. But at least they will be allowed to take “a photo.”

Holzman was a guest at the Hamptons party, where a line of surfboards designed by artists including Peter Max was being auctioned by Charitybuzz to benefit Southampton Hospital.

Others circulating included Hamptons mag cover girls Ali Wentworth, Katie Lee and Stephanie March, as well as Beth Stern, Chris Wragge, Samantha Yanks and Debra Halpert.

A scathing New York Times piece last summer criticized the Clinton Foundation, saying, “For all of its successes, [it] had become a sprawling concern, supervised by a rotating board of old Clinton hands, threatened by conflicts of interest.”

A Clinton Foundation rep said the winning bidder was, “actually an American citizen of Chinese heritage” in California. And, “Without our knowledge, the CharityBuzz staff decided to ask him if he would be interested in adding more people to the lunch for an additional donation. We don’t know if they specified an amount.”

A CharityBuzz rep did not comment.
