KUSA- It's a disease carved into human history, with a deadly reputation.

"The plague is basically what's been here for centuries," said 9NEWS Medical Expert Dr. John Torres. "It's what caused the Black Death back in the Middle Ages."

Even though it doesn't kill people in large numbers like it once did, it is a serious disease. One man from Adams County is in the hospital recovering from a form of Plague.

The disease is part of the fabric of nature in Colorado now, found in rodents-- mainly prairie dogs. It's transmitted through the fleas they carry.

"When the prairie dogs actually die, the fleas need somewhere to go. So once there is a prairie dog die-off, the fleas are out looking for somewhere to get a meal from," said Jennifer House of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

In the latest case, doctors discovered the owner of a dog contracted plague. Tests later showed the dog, which had died unexpectedly, also had the disease.

There are three types of plague; all can be potentially deadly, if not treated.

The first is bubonic, which causes lymph nodes to swell. There is also septicemic, which comes about when the plague gets into the bloodstream. Finally, there is pneumonic, which is the kind the patient in Colorado has. Doctors said it can be especially worrisome.

"It's a type of pneumonia," Dr. John said. "It can be spread from person to person, and that's what makes it kind of scary and kind of dangerous."

I'm not sure about this case in particular, but a lot of older diseases that we had under control are showing up in places where it has become popular to stay away from vaccines.

Or where it has become popular to invite unvaccinated illegals in... which is basically the entire country...

Aaahhh, no big deal.  We are the descendants of people who beat it the first few times.  Walk it off.

BINGO

How long till we have an outbreak of a South American strain of Ebola, or a related hemorrhagic fever??  Africa is in the midst of the biggest Ebola outbreak in decades, and once it gets started it is incredibly difficult to contain.

Where are they sending these people mostly? Conservative areas? If so may be part of the plan?

Makes you wonder about all the anti-vaccination movements going on lately. All the paranoid soccer moms not getting their kids vaccinated because Jenni McCarthy and Natural News told them it will give their kids autism.

If vaccination really was effective, there would be no risk from the un-vaccinated...

Common myth. Actually, the more a virus has a chance to incubate and spread, the more it mutates posing risks to those who were vaccinated. (think of the flu virus' constant mutation). During the early days of TB vaccination, for example, they were dealing with many strains evolving and had trouble staying ahead of it. Now that most have been vaccinated with a 'group' vaccination, the virus isn't spreading and mutating as much so existing vaccines remain effective. If more and more are unvaccinated and contract it, the more it mutates and spreads potentially rendering existing vaccinations useless.

::appended with more info::

There are many children that cannot be vaccinated, for various reasons such as an autoimmune disease, allergies, or simply being too young to have received the vaccine. These children have no protection against the disease. If they are exposed to it through an unvaccinated peer, they are at risk of suffering and/or even dying.

Unvaccinated children are protected by the herd immunity created by the vaccinated children. Herd immunity basically means that if enough people are vaccinated it becomes really hard for the disease to find hosts it can survive in and spread. The more children are unvaccinated the greater the risk that herd immunity will fail. If herd immunity fails, all suffer for the reasons described below.

Vaccines do not offer 100% immunity towards disease. The efficacy varies; some vaccines offer higher rates of efficacy, some lower. Having received a vaccine doesn’t guarantee that a child will not get sick when exposed to the disease. Vaccines reduce the risk of contracting the disease, if exposed, dramatically, but there will always be a number of children for whom the vaccine will not provide protection. Those children will be at risk, from other unvaccinated children who may contract and spread the disease.

They are also at risk of suffering and/or even dying if they are exposed to it through a vaccinated peer who remains susceptible.

Funny to watch supposed conservatives insist that other people engage in behaviors they disagree with because they believe that it benefits them.  A lot like liberals in that respect.

Again, those children will also be at risk from other vaccinated children who, like themselves, remain at risk because vaccination is not as effective as most people think.

We are conservatives, not anarchists. We always have stood for limited government that protects life, liberty, and property. It is not only a national security interest to protect life itself, but frankly, it is common sense. It is the same common sense and legal regulations that don't allow open sewers, people to defecate on the street, and people with TB to not work in the restaurant business. It is the same regulations that prevent some high risk lifestyles from donating blood.

People are free to opt out of vaccines for various reasons- no one is holding a gun to anyone's head about it. However, let's not be asinine and rebel against basic scientific common sense simply because you are sticking it to the man.

'The man' tells you not to have an open sewer on your property. Are you going to say that is just statism and start dumping your waste in your yard?

Good post. It would be different if the feds were kicking your door down and sticking you with vaccine needles by way of force.

Actually, the plague is a lot more common than you might think.  While pneumonic is the rarest, it is certainly not unprecedented.  There has always been a reservoir of the plague bacteria in parts of the United States, especially in the western areas.  Bubonic is usually the kind that people get, but just like anthrax, it is only news because it is very rare.  This one can't be blamed on illegals.  30 years ago when my family was on vacation in west Texas, there were signs at the state and national parks warning about plague and to avoid wild animals that can carry it.

Just saw a map of where they are sending the illegals and it is not in conservative areas it is mostly into the northern eastern states. A few in conservative areas but very few they know there will be a fight if they do.

If you've seen the video of the black woman, sorry, extremely pissed off black woman wanting to know where to send her kids to escape "violence", it's not going to be fightless anywhere.  The pols are the ones with the open arms, not the people.
