Unlike many of his Republican colleagues, Karl Rove advocated Thursday for bipartisan compromise on immigration.

“Republicans have to look at this as an opportunity that they have to work,” the Republican strategist said on the Fox News program “Happening Now.”

“It’s an opportunity to get some things done to help secure the border.”

He suggested that in working with President Barack Obama’s $3.7 billion request for additional funds to deal with the current immigration crisis, Republicans could make policy gains like increasing the amount of border patrols.

“They ought to sit down in good faith,” he said of Republicans and the administration.

For Obama’s part, Rove recommended flexibility on what the president expected Congress to give him.

“I hope the president isn’t stuck in the mud on, ‘I have to have $3.7 billion,’ and the Republicans shouldn’t feel compelled to give it to him.”

Republicans have the leverage here.  Obama wants something, the Democrats want something.  The GOP should shift at least half the money into border security.  THIS is their chance to get a lot of what they've wanted.

And rewrite that silly 2008 law.  No reason Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras shouldn't be treated like Mexico.

So Rove is in on the 'Republicans as controlled opposition' scam?

Shocking...

I have a feeling Rove figures he will profit by this.

I have a feeling Rove figures he will profit by this.

His corporate backers will, and you know how that works.

Yeah, work with Obama, because if you get him to agree to something, you can be sure he'll uphold his end of the bargain.

Yeah Rove!  Why didn't you build the fence?  We gave you the money.
