A Boeing 767 was forced to abort a landing at an airport in Barcelona on Sunday after another plane taxiing on the runway crossed its path.

The approaching plane, from Russian airline Utair, was on its final descent when an Aerolineas Argentineas Airbus A340 rolled across the runway, causing the Utair pilot to pull up and circle before landing safely — a maneuver known as a "go-around."

The incident was caught on video by Miguel Angel, a plane enthusiast who called it "one of the worst experiences I have ever had." The footage has racked up more than 3.4 million views on YouTube.

While "go-arounds" are common and routinely practiced by pilots, they are not often caught on dramatic video.

Aviation experts say the A340 should have been issued a "hold short" instruction from the control tower, ordering the pilot not to pass the runway.

But a spokesman for Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) told the El Mundo newspaper that the two planes were never in any danger and that the Russian plane could have proceeded because there was sufficient space to carry out a landing.

The "near-miss" wasn't the only dramatic aircraft footage to come out of Europe over the weekend. Videos taken at the Waddington International Air Show in England show an F-16 landing that caused spectators to take cover.

I were flying into Phoenix once, on a 747. Suddenly, about 2 minutes from landing, when we were low enough to see people as people, not dots, the pilot basically stood her on her tail and the engines spooled up to maximum. Some dipwad in a Cessna had wandered onto the runway. There was some very inventive cursing before they realized the cabin mike was live and killed it.

Most people found it funny, more than anything else. I'm guessing a few parents had some explaining to do.
