Jerusalem (CNN) -- The Israeli military's Operation Protective Edge against Hamas in Gaza went into a "substantial phase" overnight, an official said Tuesday.
Airstrikes hit around 50 targets, including militant houses and military compounds, Israel Defense Forces spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told CNN.
Hamas security sources reported at least 60 Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Monday night into Tuesday, including from F-16s, Apache helicopters and drones. The sources said at least 10 people were injured.
