US Army Clears Bergdahl of Misconduct Before Talking to Him

Posted By Daniel Greenfield On June 26, 2014 @ 11:23 am In The Point | 10 Comments

I’m not sure that this is so much the fault of the army as it is the fault of liberal pundits. “Army Clears Bergdahl of Any Misconduct During Captivity,” The Atlantic Wire slapped up.

The Atlantic Wire is a slightly more credible BuzzFeed, but it’s only piggybacking on the headline that the Wall Street Journal decided to go with, “No Evidence of Misconduct by Bergdahl While Captive, Army Says.”

Either way Bergdahl is a long way from cleared, though quotes like these can suggest that no one is looking too hard, which is entirely plausible when the marching orders come from Obama Inc.

The U.S. Army said Wednesday that there is no evidence that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl engaged in any misconduct during his five years in captivity.

Some soldiers who served with Sgt. Bergdahl speculated that he had helped his captors while being held, but Army officials said Wednesday that there is no indication that he did so. “We have no reason to believe that he engaged in any misconduct” during the five years he was held captive, said one Army official.

We have no reason to believe… is a long way from being cleared. Though it can also suggest that no one is even looking. But all this is very much premature.

Sgt. Bergdahl hasn’t spoken with Army officials appointed last week to investigate his 2009 disappearance and he won’t be interviewed for several weeks, while he adjusts to life back in the U.S., officials said.

It’s possible that Bergdahl did nothing wrong in captivity, but there’s evidence suggesting otherwise. Aside from the claims by members of his unit that the Taliban suddenly knew a lot more about how to kill Americans, there are other reports as well.

U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl at one point during his captivity converted to Islam, fraternized openly with his captors and declared himself a “mujahid,” or warrior for Islam, according to secret documents prepared on the basis of a purported eyewitness account and obtained by Fox News.

The reports indicate that Bergdahl’s relations with his Haqqani captors morphed over time, from periods of hostility, where he was treated very much like a hostage, to periods where, as one source told Fox News, “he became much more of an accepted fellow” than is popularly understood. He even reportedly was allowed to carry a gun at times.

Maybe these reports aren’t true, but it seems that one part of Bergdahl’s history is being whitewashed rather quickly, which suggests that the rest will be too, because Bergdahl has become a string that links to Obama.

Ok, but what about when he went AWOL, just before he was "captured."

Typical Obama whitewash.

Oh, is that racist?  I'm sure it is.
