Zogby Report Card: Obama juggles Iraq, Iran alright, but IRS scandal 'stinks'

 By Paul Bedard  | June 21, 2014 | 6:00 am

Pollster John Zogby reports in our weekly White House report card that President Obama's slumping poll numbers aren't “devastating,” and warns that the Internal Revenue Service scandal stinks.

"Well we had Bush 41 and 43. Now we have Obama 41 and 43 — except those are his poll numbers. These are not good, and they are slipping. But a warning to folks who simply hate Mr. Obama: these are not devastating numbers. I will watch to see if they continue to slip, or free fall.

“No one can possibly blame the president for the Iraq crisis. He pulled troops out because that is exactly what the majority of Americans demanded. Now he is handling a very tough situation with caution because that is appropriate. There are no easy (or perhaps even good) answers.

“And he is thinking strategically by possibly engaging Iran. Again, not an easy answer, but perhaps opening a door to a July deal on Iran's nuclear program. Special care is necessary because the U.S. risks alienating good allies in the Gulf.

"The capture of the mastermind of the Benghazi attack shows that the administration is taking the issue very seriously.

“As difficult as Iraq and the Middle East are, turning over IRS emails should be easy. I think this issue stinks more and more.”
