Iraq crisis stirs fears Afghanistan could be next

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness -- these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. . . . reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."
George Washington

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters."
Benjamin Franklin

Of course Afghanistan will go back to its traditional status quo ante once the US is out of there.  That is why the goal in Afghanistan should have only been the nailing of bin laden and, to the extent possible, the capturing/killing of al-qaeda leaders; nation-building was a lethal fantasy that should never have been engaged in.

Seriously.....who gives a hoot?  Is that God-forsaken land good for anything?

I imagine the US soldiers who fought in Afghanistan, and their families (esp. the families of the dead) will feel that their sacrifice has been snubbed.

After the outrage I've expressed regarding what Obama is allowing to happen in Iraq, I certainly don't need to be reminded about that, Oceander.

We need to fortitude to let them fight their own civil wars.  The end result is what we're now seeing in this country....half the people will be considered targets and the other half will support whatever the "new boss" does.

....just like here in the USA.
