Al Qaeda Approaches Baghdad, Obama Orders Department of Defense to Fight “Seafood Fraud”

Al Qaeda in Iraq has nothing to worry about. Not unless it starts mislabeling fish caught in protected maritime zones. Or fails to state the supply chain for its seafood.
Secretary of State John Kerry is directing federal agencies to work together to develop a program to combat seafood fraud. Since there isn’t even a program yet, just a directive to create a program, it will be 10 years before various agencies ‘work together’ to hilarious effect, like when the federal Endangered Species Act tried to restore the Paiute cutthroat trout but was blocked by by the Wilderness Act because the location is so remote it requires a gas-powered generator for the auger – which can’t be used in wilderness areas.
But Obama is determined to fight seafood fraud and raise the price of fish. More regulations for controlling the supply chain will make it more expensive to catch and sell fish… and that will make it harder for working families to eat.
Not that Obama cares about working families except when he’s reading from a teleprompter.
Obama announced an initiative to tackle seafood fraud and illegal fishing in the United States. His announcement coincides with the Global “Our Ocean” conference convened by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
“By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and to ensure that seafood sold in the United States is legally and sustainably caught and to combat the negative impacts of seafood fraud on the United States…”
“It shall be the policy of the United States for all executive departments and agencies (agencies) to combat IUU fishing and seafood fraud by strengthening coordination and implementation of relevant existing authorities and, where appropriate, by improving the transparency and traceability of the seafood supply chain. All agencies and offices charged with overseeing the seafood supply chain and verifying the authenticity of its products shall implement and enforce relevant policies, regulations, and laws to ensure that seafood sold in the United States is legally caught and accurately labeled.”
“There is established, as a subcommittee reporting to the National Ocean Council established by Executive Order 13547 of July 19, 2010 (Stewardship of the Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes), a Presidential Task Force on Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing and Seafood Fraud (Task Force), to be co-chaired by the Secretaries of State and Commerce, or their designees.”
“Membership. In addition to the Co-Chairs, the Task Force shall include designated senior-level representatives from:
(a) the Department of Defense;
That’s right. There will be a representative from DoD to fight “seafood fraud” which mainly consists of fishing more than environmentalists think should be fished.
Al Qaeda had better tremble in its moccasins. If it engages in seafood fraud, the task force will really come after it.
