Iraq Crisis: US Moves Aircraft Carrier To Persian Gulf As Obama Weighs Military Options

The U.S. aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush is being moved to the Persian Gulf in case President Barack Obama authorizes airstrikes in Iraq, CNN reported Friday.

Iraq is in turmoil after an al Qaeda offshoot, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, made advances this week in the north and north-central portions of the country, including the seizure of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city.

On Thursday, Obama said he was mulling all options on Iraq, saying, "I don't rule anything out." His spokesman, Jay Carney, later clarified, saying the president is not considering putting troops on the ground.

Why the frack isn't there already a carrier in the gulf??  There isn't one in the Med either.

Ronald Reagan used to say that Nimitz class carriers don't pay for themselves sitting tied to the pier.  This Regime only thinks of the cost per day to operate one with absolutely no appreciation for the value of 90,000 tons of diplomacy.

The US Sixth Fleet is assigned in the Mediterrean and the US Fifth Fleet is assigned to the Gulf. The USS Ronald Reagan is assigned to the Fifth battle group.
