WH Wants $2 Billion to House Illegal Immigrant Children
As many as 80,000 minors expected to cross the border illegally in 2014

Facing an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 immigrant children expected to cross into the United States illegally in 2014, the Obama administration is scrambling to handle the massive influx of minors. Having maxed out several detention centers, the administration is now asking for over $2 billion in taxpayer funds to support HHS facilities.

As tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors cross into the United States illegally from Mexico, the Obama administration admits it didn't anticipate how many would come -- and it is asking Congress "for additional (taxpayer) resources to meet this challenge."
"So there is a request to the appropriators for just over $2 billion to support HHS (Health and Human Services) facilities in particular," a senior administration official told reporters on a White House conference call Monday.
The administration also is requesting another $160 million in "additional support" for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Border Patrol and immigration agencies.
The Obama administration has called the unprecedented influx of illegal minors a "humanitarian crisis," blaming violence and oppression in southern countries for the dramatic uptick.
Critics of the president, however, point to the administration's immigration policies, including the DACA’s unilateral delay of deportation for immigrants who crossed as children and reports of ICE releasing tens of thousands of “convicted criminal aliens,” as encouraging the flood of immigrants. Citing the many troubling statistics, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently argued that the current immigration crisis is "a direct consequence of Obama's lawlessness."
