US Vets Oppose Berghdal Deal 68% to 16%

These are the people who would know. Many of them were there. They know what is at stake. They understand honor and duty.

And they have spoken.


A new USA Today/Pew poll shows that American veterans strongly oppose President Obama’s decision to release five Taliban commanders in exchange for U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl:

Veterans are much more harsh in their assessment of the 28-year-old sergeant. Only 6% of veterans who responded say they sympathized with him, while 33% say they were angry. By 68%-16%, veterans say Obama made the wrong decision.

“If he was a captured prisoner of war, we wouldn’t be having this discussion,” says Joe Davis, the director of public affairs for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. “He put his teammates in jeopardy, and you absolutely don’t do that in a combat zone.”

Veterans are worried about the precedent set by the transfer, Davis says. “We have a long history in this country of not negotiating with terrorists,” he says. “And we just did.”

This probably won’t hurt Obama too much with the general public, but it’s another reminder to vets how Un-American this administration is.

This probably won’t hurt Obama too much with the general public, but it’s another reminder to vets how Un-American this administration is.

I think the media thinks this. After all, there are, what, 6 million vets in a population of 340 million? Statistically insignificant, right?

Veterans have a lot more clout than the media thinks. The young veterans? They finish their tour, come home and usually go to school to grab the bit of paper they'll need. Puts them right in the heart of one of the Dem's main demographics. The young. And they are usually popular, as being the only ones who can legally buy beer.

How about black vets? For a small segment of the population, there are an awful lot of black veterans and soldiers. You think they are going to stay quiet while they get screwed once again? Not this time.

And finally - us older ones. We have one thing that always gets neglected. We tend to get out and vote. Not just ourselves, but we've been around the block. Have wide ranging networks of friends, clients, acquaintances.

Sometimes a small number can make a colossal difference. If nothing else, 300 teaches that.

I wasn't part of the poll, so make that 68%  + 1. As for Bergdahl, court martial him. Then shoot him.
