Sometimes a fun and cheering story is nice. The world is not all murder and misery.

A quick-thinking girl uses just her legs to rescue a sinking canoe in a captivating new video.

The youngster from Mabul Island - a fishing village off the coast of Malaysia - spots the submersed wooden boat and clings to a jetty as she secures each side of it underwater with her feet.

She then starts tipping the canoe side-to-side using her leg strength and amazing balance. Gradually the water splashes out and the sailing vessel bobs back to the surface.

Once she's finished her rescue mission, the girl jumps into the crystal clear water and invites her friends to get into the boat with her.

She remains dressed in a sodden skirt and T-shirt.

'That girl is awesome!' one viewer exclaimed.

Another humorously added: 'Well, where was she when the Titanic went down?'

The uploader of the video identifies the girl as Bajau Laut.

This ethnic group from southeast Asia often live their entire lives on the water and are sometimes referred to as Sea Gypsies.

Many live in villages built on stilts in the middle of the ocean and travel by wooden boats.
