North Korea Says It's Holding a Third American
« on: June 06, 2014, 02:08:27 AM »
An American tourist has been detained in North Korea for allegedly committing an unspecified crime, the country's official news agency reported Friday.

The Korean Central News Agency said that authorities were investigating the American for allegedly committing acts inconsistent with the purpose of a tourist visit. It did not give details

KCNA said the American went to North Korea on April 29.

The person would be the third American currently held in North Korea.

In April, North Korea said it had detained a 24-year-old American for improper behavior while he was being processed to enter the country as a tourist. He was identified as Miller Matthew Todd — possibly putting his surname first. It said he entered the country on April 10 with a tourist visa, but tore it up and shouted that he wanted to seek asylum. The brief report said he chose the North "as a shelter."

Look - I like Americans. Trust them (mostly), respect them, admire them. But my God, you have some damned stupid citizens.

North Korea detains US tourist for leaving a Bible in hotel

North Korea said on Friday it had detained an American tourist for violating its laws after entering the secretive state in April, bringing the number of U.S. citizens held by Pyongyang to three.

Pyongyang has detained a number of U.S. citizens in recent years, using them as a tool to extract visits by high-profile figures, including former President Bill Clinton, for propaganda means.

North Korea periodically accuses the United States of military hostility and conspiracy to overthrow its leadership. The two states have been locked in a tense diplomatic conflict over Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs.

The latest American to be held was being questioned by authorities for conduct inappropriate for the purpose of his visit as a tourist, state media reported on Friday.

The North’s KCNA news agency named him as Jeffrey Edward Fowle and said he entered the country on April 29. It gave no further details.

A State Department official said Washington was aware of reports that a third U.S. citizen had been detained in North Korea. “There is no greater priority for us than the welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad,” the official said, adding no further information was available.

Earlier on Friday, Japan’s Kyodo news agency said the North had detained a U.S. citizen in mid-May.

Kyodo cited unidentified diplomatic sources as saying the American was detained just before he was to leave North Korea, for having left a Bible in his hotel.

Two other Americans are currently being held by the North, arrested after arriving on tourist visas and accused of crimes against the state. Korean American missionary Kenneth Bae has been in custody for 18 months and a second man has been held since April.

In May, the U.S. State Department issued an advisory urging Americans not to travel to North Korea because of the “risk of arbitrary arrest and detention” even while holding valid visas.

“Foreign visitors to North Korea may be arrested, detained, or expelled for activities that would not be considered criminal outside North Korea,” it said.

The Norks have forcibly kidnapped scores of Japanese and South Korean women for wives and concubines for the ruling classes and high level military.

The Norks too have a great deal to answer for....

So who will Obuttocks swap for them? Because we know this administration considers bringing Americans back home as a sacred duty. Unless they're held in Mexico.

These are Christian Americans, apparently. I think we can assume B.O. couldn't give a rat's rear end about their welfare.

The commando raid occurred in 1968. There was another incident in 1996. There are still a few Japanese nationals and South Korean nationals are still held hostage in North Korea

Could someone tell me why American citizens are going to North Korea?  They KNOW this dork pulls this kind of thing, so WHY IN HELL DO THEY GO THERE?

It's hard to feel sympathetic with people who put themselves in harms way.

Something to do with Mark 16:15, perhaps. "He (the risen Jesus Christ) said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

The North Korean people live a hellish existence.  They should be in our prayers always.  Thank God there are people willing to try to get the Word into there for them.  Stuff like this is unimaginable to me.

Reminds me of Brother Andrew's efforts during the heyday of the Soviet Union.
Some people risk their lives to share the gospel.
And then some of us just sit here and criticize them.
