In an act of incredible lameness, Governor Andrew Cuomo and his California counterpart, Jerry Brown, have bet a book, some condiments, state-funded propaganda promoting Cuomo's fiscal platform and a package of rice cakes on this year's Stanley Cup finals.

Cuomo's office announced the terms of the bet before the first of a best-of-seven championship between the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings. Brown said he would send Cuomo a copy of “California: A History” by Kevin Starr as well as “Lumberg Organic Brown Rice Cakes, Lightly Salted” if the Rangers win.

If the Kings are victorious, Cuomo will send a hockey puck he had imprinted last year to mark the “hat trick” of three on-time state budgets. (This year, Cuomo's “grand slam” budget favor was a baseball.) He'll also send a sampler basket of New York foods that includes spiedie marinade, chicken wing sauce from Buffalo and a bottle of wine from the Finger Lakes.

Brown, a Democrat, did not include a canned quote for Cuomo's press release.

Cuomo's is at the above link.

(Vielkind, according to his Twitter, included the first six words in the story in the original copy but the editors removed it. I have included it here. He also notes on his Twitter... "<WTF>, California. Rice cakes? You bet a box of rice cakes on your hockey team?" with <WTF> spelled out in full.)
