I will give this soldier the benefit of doubt, instead of condemn him based on what could be enemy propaganda.

He may be brainwashed. He may have acted under duress. He may not currently posses "capacity."

I agree, but I'm seeing stories that suggest otherwise.. We have to wait and see.

I'll wait to hear his own words. Not his Father, not his CO, not a politician - him.

This guy was a deserter who may have put his fellow US troops in grave danger.  When does his court martial begin?   :patriot:

How about somebody who was stationed with him?

Thank you for the link. It seems damning, I agree, and I totally understand the rage and frustration just below the surface there. I do still wish to hear his own words though. People break. They do strange shit when that happens. Just one of the joys of combat, right? Have seen too many people break to rush to judgement - hell, come way too close to it myself from time to time. Though his CO should have been up on it at once. You simply can't afford that, at all, as the poster you linked says. A hole is a disaster waiting to happen.

Not making excuses for the guy. But I have seen people decide to simply go home when they have burnt out and start walking in roughly the right direction. You can usually tell and grab them before they have gone more than a mile or so, but not always.

This just keeps getting better and better.  The US Military had to put all kinds of Special Forces, Aviation and other sources at risk just to rescue a deserter who doesn't feel well any more??  What, that Taliban Single Payer Plan ain't workin' out, huh??

I think this operation was conceived as a way to give team Obama a foreign policy victory, any foreign policy victory, or any action that could possibly be spun as a foreign policy victory.  As usual, the rank amateurs who are running things at the White House didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground, or a Prisoner of War from a goddam deserter.  This on top of the still unfolding VA scandal makes me furious.

If the administration did this knowing he may be a traitor and used it as an opportunity to free the prisoners, isn't that treason - aiding the enemy?

If the blowback gets too bad, the poor guy just might take a 'turn for the worst'.

yah...Ibn Bob Bowie al-Amiriki needs to stay out of Fort Marcy Park once he returns to the US.

Here's a thought:  How long will it be before Obama greets him at the White House??

Ibn Bob is still on active duty, so yes, I expect him to emerge at some point in dress uniform.  if he is brought up on charges I can guarantee he will be in uniform, likely in the stockade at Fort Leavenworth.

Let's see how this plays out.  Its obvious the Administration has no clue they just stuck a finger in a light socket with this, because Bowie al-Ameriki's heart may belong to Allah, but his traitorous ass still belongs to the US Army.
