UK: “Do Not Walk Your Dog Here. This is an Islamic Area Now.”

Don’t walk your dog here. Big Islam is watching.

A criminal investigation has been called for by Poplar and Limehouse MP Jim Fitzpatrick over a “highly divisive sign”.

The poster, found on Burdett Road in Poplar, claimed: “Do not walk your dog here! Muslims do not like dogs. This is an Islamic area now.”

Mr Fitzpatrick, who said the photo was sent to him by a constituent on Wednesday, has written to the Met Police and Tower Hamlets Mayor Lutfur Rahman calling for action to be taken.

The provenance of the sign is unknown, though it’s a great match for the ad it’s pasted on for that 1984 feel, but there is no question that Tower Hamlets has some Canineophobia issues.

That’s not surprising as according to some Islamic Hadiths Mohammed ordered the killing of all dogs or all black dogs and Muslims consider dogs to be a source of impurity.

“Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman,” Muslims believe.

The multicultural response is the usual sort of thing. Diversity and tolerance… and police patrols.

A Tower Hamlets Council spokeswoman said: “We have been alerted to a fly-poster stuck on a sign post near Bartlett Park. “We have removed it and are liaising with the police to investigate this alarming and divisive poster. The council actively promotes the No Place for Hate campaign whereby people of different faiths, cultures, lifestyles and backgrounds live in harmony.

As long as they’re all Muslim. Sunni Muslim. Sunni Muslim men. The right sort of Sunni Muslim men.
