"How can any responsible parent allow their mentally disturbed son to amass an ARSENAL in their own house without their knowledge?"

He was living on his own in a college apartment. His family was actually very anti gun and in his manifesto, he described going to a shooting range the first time and got physically sick touching a gun (before he started planning his 'retribution').

The aspiring model whose childhood rejection of Elliot Rodger lit the fuse that turned him into a murderous madman barely remembers him, her dad told The Post on Monday.

Pretty blond Monette Moio is vilified as an “evil bitch” in the rambling, 141-page manifesto that Rodger wrote before killing six people and wounding another 13 in California on Friday.

But her father, veteran Hollywood stuntman John Moio, said she only “vaguely remembers him” and was far too young to have been one of the “mean, cruel, and heartless creatures” that Rodger railed against.

“He called her a bully. She was just a little petite girl of just 10 years old,” John, 75, said.

John said he spoke with Monette after her name surfaced in Rodger’s manifesto.

“He was [a year] older. She remembers him being odd, that’s it,” the dad said.

John told the Daily Mail that his daughter was “devastated over the whole thing.”

“It’s like she’s being implicated in this terrible tragedy for something she hasn’t done and can’t remember,” he said.

“He’s a sociopath. She hasn’t seen him since school,” John said of his daughter and Rodger.

BREAKING: MULTIPLE WITNESSES Say TWO MEN Were In the Elliot Rodger BMW During Shooting

Multiple witnesses say they saw two people inside the suspect’s vehicle, however, during the press conference, Sheriff Brown would neither confirm nor deny whether there was a passenger in the car.

Michael Vitak, a student from the Czech Republic, told Sanchez what he witnessed.

“Guys in a BMW. Maybe they were trying to prove they’re tough,” Vitak said during a live televised interview. Vitak saw them shooting at two girls; one was shot dead, the other was critically hurt.

One woman identified as Sierra told Sanchez she was approached by two men in a black BMW. The driver flashed a small black handgun and asked ‘”Hey, what’s up?”‘

A childhood buddy of the “virgin” murderer had a gut feeling he shouldn’t accept an invitation from Rodger to visit last weekend — likely saving him from becoming a victim in the madman’s murderous rampage, which left six dead and 13 injured.

The mother of Philip Bloesner, whom Rodger identified as his first friend at Topanga Elementary School in his hate-filled manifesto, told Britain’s Daily Mail that if her son and another friend had gone to Rodger’s Isla Vista pad as asked, “I have a feeling that they would have been right there as a part of it and shot, as well.

“We could see that he was turning,” Cathleen Bloesner said of Rodger. “He’d changed emotionally, and he’d become very despondent, and he wanted to get back at people.”

One of Rodger’s roommates, Weihan “David” Wang, didn’t follow his instincts and wound up dead.

Speaking with her hand clutched to her heart, Wang’s mother said her son had wanted to get away from Rodger and had even found a new apartment.

But he was waiting to move out until the start of the next semester, his parents, Jinshuang “Jane” Liu and Charlie Wang, told an NBC affiliate in San Diego.

Liu said her son told them Rodger played music loudly and was unsociable.

Wang was one of Rodger’s first victims and was found stabbed to death along with two other men in their apartment Friday night.

“I wish I could go in exchange of my son’s life,” Liu said, choking back tears. “I ask God, why doesn’t he take me instead of my son? I don’t understand why this happened to me.

“I’m just heartbroken. You just can’t imagine for a mom.”

The TV show Brain Games on Nat Geo channel had a topic of this very same thing.    In the middle of a busy town square, they staged a confrontation followed by a purse snatch. Not one of the people interviewed was able to describe accurately what happened, what the thief looked like, if he was wearing a hat or not, the colors of clothes the thief was wearing, or even what the thief took.   They gave widely different answers. In stressful situations like this your brain feels in the blanks of things you don’t remember, with grossly inaccurate pictures . Thus the thief wore a white ball cap, when in fact it was black.

Calif. killer’s parents grieving more for victims than own son
By Bruce Golding
May 27, 2014 | 6:17pm
NY Post

The parents of California killer Elliot Rodger are grieving more for the victims than their own son, who blew his brains out after his rampage.

“It’s very difficult to be in their company . . . They are in grief. It would be true to say they mourn the loss of the others more than their son,’’ family friend Simon Astaire told The Post Tuesday.

Rodger’s parents — Hollywood director Peter Rodger and ex-wife Li Chin Rodger — “are unrecognizable” since their eldest child posted a YouTube video vowing vengeance over his failed love life and went on a murder spree that killed six and wounded 13 Friday night, Astaire said.

Astaire, a novelist who sat down with the divorced couple and Peter’s second wife, Soumaya, added that the family is trying to contact relatives of Elliot’s victims.

“It’s in process. They are reaching out. Both sides are reaching out at the moment,” he said, declining to elaborate.

Astaire wouldn’t say if any funeral arrangements were being made for Elliot or if his body had been claimed from the Santa Barbara Coroner’s Office.

Astaire said he met Elliot only a few times and recalled a Christmas party two years ago when Elliot, stepping outside for some air, stood alone. “He seemed at the time a gentle soul, but how wrong can you be?” he said.

Meanwhile, Lucky Radley, a childhood friend of Rodger, said he remembered the killer as “overly quiet” when they hung out together during fourth grade.

In his manifesto, Rodger had called Radley “very nice” in elementary school but said Radley later became “an object of my extreme jealousy and hatred.”

In middle school, “he immediately became popular with the pretty girls of his grade. I hated him for it,” Rodger wrote.

Radley, a University of Utah football player, told the Salt Lake City Tribune, “Literally, I’ve done nothing wrong to him whatsoever. I really hung out with him in fourth grade. After that, he was kind of doing his thing. I was into sports and he was kind of into other things.”

California rampage shows gaps in mental health law
« Reply #92 on: May 29, 2014, 11:08:12 am »
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Elliot Rodger's murderous rampage near Santa Barbara has tragically exposed the limitations of involuntary-commitment laws that allow authorities to temporarily confine people who are deemed a danger to themselves or others.

Three weeks before he stabbed and shot six people to death and then apparently took his own life, the 22-year-old sometime college student was questioned by sheriff's deputies outside his apartment and was able to convince them he was calm, courteous and no threat to anyone. The officers had been sent by local health officials after Rodger's family expressed concern about him.

"He just didn't meet the criteria for any further intervention," Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday. "He was able to make a very convincing story that there was no problem, that he wasn't going to hurt himself or anyone else."

Like many other states, California has a law intended to identify and confine dangerously unstable people before they can do harm. It allows authorities to hold people in a mental hospital for up to 72 hours for observation.

To trigger it, there must be evidence a person is suicidal, intent on hurting others or so "gravely disabled" as to be unable to care for himself.

Police and medical personnel make tens of thousands of such welfare checks in California annually. In the year that ended June 2012, nearly 126,000 people were placed on temporary mental health holds in California.

In Rodger's case, it's not clear whether the law was too porous, if deputies were inadequately trained or if they simply weren't provided enough information to ferret out how deeply troubled Rodger had become.

Killer virgin’s parents: It’s ‘living hell’ knowing what our son did
By Sophia RosenbaumMay 29, 2014 | 2:13pm

Elliot Rodger's parents, Peter (left) and Chin Rodger, say they have been experiencing "hell on earth" since the massacre.

The parents of California madman Elliot Rodger have been living in “hell on earth” since their son’s chaotic killing spree left six dead last week.

Peter and Chin Rodger released an anguished statement detailing their heartbreak for the victims of their son’s senseless Santa Barbara rampage that started with the slashing of his three roommates and ended with the “kissless virgin” turning the gun on himself.

“We are crying out in pain for the victims and their families. It breaks our hearts on a level that we didn’t think was possible,” Rodger’s parents said in a statement distributed by family friend Simon Astaire, who acts as their spokesman. “The feeling of knowing that it was our son’s actions that caused this tragedy can only be described as hell on earth.”

Astaire told ABC News on Thursday that their pain is so deep, they can’t speak without stammering and can barely articulate full sentences.

Last Friday, Rodger left his apartment armed with three handguns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. He headed to two sorority houses, where he shot and killed two girls, opened fire on a local deli, killing one, and ran down at least two bicyclists with his black BMW while shooting at people on the street. He injured more than a dozen.
Modal Trigger

Just before he left his apartment Friday, Rodger sent a rambling, 137-page manifesto that outlined his entire life, called out everyone he hated and detailed his plan to kill as many people as possible in his “Day of Retribution,” which he had been planning for at least three years.

Rodger’s parents raced from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara to try to stop their son, but they were too late. Now they hope to do whatever they can to stop similar mass murders from happening.

“It is now our responsibility to do everything we can to help avoid this happening to any other family — not only to avoid any more innocence destroyed, but also to identify and deal with the mental issues that drove our son to do what he did,” the statement said.
Astaire has said his good friends Peter and Chin are mourning the loss of their son’s six victims more than their own flesh and blood.

Doubtless this will bring out another round of wails for gun control from the gun-haters, but it is interesting to note that half of the people he killed were "slashed" - i.e., not shot with a gun - and that he was as deadly with his car - several thousand pounds of killing machine - as he was with his firearms.

Sounds to me that there should be knife control and BMW control first before we get into any more gun control.

The killer was an adult, living away from his family's home. They do NOT have any legal authority to confine their son.

The police followed the law. The son bought the guns (and knives), not his parents.

Trying to attach this tragedy to all society's traits you dislike, doesn't compute.

The Aurora, Colorado killer had parents, but he was an adult, not living at home.

The Connecticut killer lived in his Mother's home, and she got the guns and trained with him, target shooting.

The Tucson Arizona killer's parents knew he was crazy, but did nothing.

Under current laws, parents or police can't just say one day, okay he's too crazy and lock him up.

The people that come closest to holding legal power, are the mental health professionals, who have a legal obligation to report, if some lines are crossed.

In some ways this is little different from the spouse who watches the other, go out, get into the family vehicle, drive away knowing he/she will be drunk and could kill somebody.

How many husbands or wives call the police, to report their spouse when they depart drunk or going to get drunk and drive?

The comment I posted was in reference to the direction that will be taken "to do whatever they can to stop similar mass murders from happening".
It will be the standard diatribe about guns, gun control, yada yada and will have nothing to do with any effective efforts to preventing these mass murders in the future.

I have no disagreement with anything you said.
