We Do Not Honor the Dead Today By Attacking What They Defended: Senator Assaults 2nd Amendment

Today we remember those who gave their lives to defend our Constitutional freedoms. One of those freedoms is freedom of speech, which allows men like Senator Blumenthal to say and advocate really stupid things.

Senator Richard Blumenthal said on Sunday he wanted to revive gun control legislation rejected by Congress in the wake of the 2012 Newtown, Connecticut, school massacre, saying it could have helped prevent this weekend's deadly California shooting spree.
Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, said on CBS's "Face the Nation" program the legislation, which failed last year, could be revised to emphasize the mental condition of potential gun buyers.
"Obviously, not every kind of gun violence is going to be prevented by laws out of Washington," he said.
"But at least we can make a start and I am going to urge that we bring back those bills, maybe reconfigure them, center on mental health, which is a point where we can agree that we need more resources to make the country healthier and to make sure that these kinds of horrific, insane, mad occurrences are stopped.
"And the Congress will be complicit if we fail in that," he said.
First, California already has some of the most Second Amendment infringing laws in the nation, yet this event still occurred. How are more laws going to change that?
Second, Elliott Rodger also slaughtered people with a knife, and with his car. Are we proposing to ban blades and BMW's now, too? If not, why not?
Third, Mr. Rodger is the perfect example of someone who has imbibed Hollywood's illusory culture and memes of entitlement, self-worship, and women as sex objects who are only here for men’s pleasure. Can we ban such toxic messages in movies?
Mr. Blumenthal, we all grieve over these events. But the answer is not found in more laws—especially those attacking key rights such as those protected by the Second Amendment, which many of those we honor today also died to defend.
