It's never worth arguing with them. Progressives are interested only in feeling morally superior; rational debate only delays their need for self-gratification.
Liberalism isn't really about making the world a better place. It's about reassuring the elites that they are good people for wanting to rule over it.

True. One might approach a conversation with leftists the same way a Christian might talk to an atheist (as apologist Greg Koukl explains): take the Columbo approach. When they say something, don't react. Ask them what they mean by that. Ask how they know what they've posited is true. Ask questions. Don't get defensive. Ask them to define their terms, e.g., "conservative"?
