On the last day of Missouri's legislative session, lawmakers passed SB656, which allows teachers to carry guns on campus.

The bill also lowers the age to legally concealed carry from 21 to 19 and allows for "limited open carry" in the state as well.

According to Guns.com, SB656 passed by a vote of 111 to 28. It allows "school districts to cross-train faculty to become 'School Protection Officers.'"

State Representative Kevin Elmer (R-Nixa) said: "These are some important changes to our gun laws here in Missouri and will strengthen and expand the rights of law-abiding, responsible Missourians."

He said the bill "[opens] the door for more responsible young adults to obtain their [concealed carry] permits."

SB656 now awaits Governor Jay Nixon's (D) signature.
