A month after being elected to his first term as President of the United States, Barack Obama said no one is "more qualified" to lead the VA than retired Army General Eric Shinseki.

At that time CNN described Shinseki as "a decorated veteran and popular figure among critics of the Bush administration."

Fast forward to 2014, and NJ.com reports Shinseki's department is being "rocked" with charges that "40 veterans may have died due to delayed treatment at the VA's Phoenix Medical Center" and "that a secret list was maintained to conceal long delays of treatment, and that potentially incriminating documents were shredded." The Star-Ledger editorial board calls these charges "a stain on the nation."

On August 8, 2009, The New York Times reported Obama "directed" Secretary of Veteran Affairs Shinseki to join in "a new reform effort" aimed at "[capturing] the very best ideas of our VA employees."

On May 16 CNN reported that Shineski is "mad as hell" over allegations of "deadly waiting times" in the VA system, but he "won't resign."

I believe it was Limbaugh who said the other day that the reason B.O. elevated Shinseki to any high position at all was that Shinseki - while a uniformed officer - criticized Bush policy in the Middle East. As noted, that made him a "popular figure among critics of the Bush administration." It did not qualify him to administer a huge bureaucracy.
