In the wake of hints from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson that the Obama administration is looking to reduce deportations by making changes to the Secure Communities program, the office of Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions released an update to their catalog of the Obama administration’s moves “to dismantle immigration enforcement.”

The Alabama immigration hawk’s 17-page timeline begins in early 2009 with the administration’s announcement that that it is “not doing raids or audits” of workplaces potentially employing illegal immigrants.

The timeline ends this week on May 12, 2014 with an internal ICE document revealing that last year ICE released more than 36,007 criminal immigrants convicted of nearly 88,000 crimes.

Monday’s news of the releases had Republicans expressing frustration at the lack of immigration enforcement.

“By refusing to enforce our country’s immigration laws, the Obama administration is compromising the safety of law-abiding American citizens,” North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones (R) said.

Thursday, Johnson revealed on PBS’ News Hour that the Obama administration is considering reforming the Secure Communities program which allows immigration officials to run the fingerprints of people booked on criminal charges in a federal database to see if the individual has immigration violations.

“In my judgment, Secure Communities should be an efficient way to work with state and local law enforcement to reach the removal priorities that we have, those who are convicted of something,” he said, as opposed to those who have not yet been convicted.

Friday, in response to Johnson’s revelation, Sessions’ office released their updated chronicle of “how the Obama administration bypassed Congress to dismantle immigration enforcement.”

A Sessions spokesman noted that due to the actions chronicled, interior deportations have declined more than 40 percent since 2009 and some 75 percent of all deportations are illegal immigrants caught while crossing the border.

Timeline: How The Obama Administration Bypassed Congress To Dismantle Immigration Enforcement

In September 2011, Obama said, “We live in a democracy. You have to pass bills through the legislature, and then I can sign it.” Yet, less than a year after he personally disputed the notion that the Executive Branch could act on its own and grant legal status to a class of individuals, he instituted the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals directive to grant legal status to a large segment of the illegal immigrant population in the U.S. This unprecedented directive, combined with numerous other lesser-reported but far-reaching Executive actions, circumvented Congress, defied federal law, and dismantled interior enforcement. Below is a detailed timeline of many of these Executive actions, which, collectively, undermine the constitutional rule of law upon which our nation’s greatness depends.
