He doesn’t deserve to wear a badge. Will he end up on SWAT as the MRAP driver? Language warning for the video.

A northwestern Indiana police officer has been placed on administrative leave after a video surfaced that allegedly shows him hitting a police dog and lifting it up by its collar.

The Times of Munster reports the video has spread on social media since it was posted Wednesday on YouTube.

The footage shows the officer lifting the police dog off the ground by its collar and hitting it with a leash.

Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda says the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation of the incident. Police haven’t released the officer’s name.

Hoyda says the officer’s behavior “appears to be inconsistent with acceptable training guidelines.”

Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. says he’s “saddened and shocked” by the dog’s treatment.
