Quote
Rev. Nancy Ellett Allison has joyfully officiated same-sex marriages in her corner of the conservative South since 2006.

“It is just a delight to be able to help these couples celebrate their lives together and work with them to craft their vows,” said Allison, her bright voice laced with a twang.

What Allison, the senior pastor at Holy Covenant United Church of Christ in Charlotte, N.C., has been doing is considered a misdemeanor crime under state law, punishable by up to 120 days in jail.

I know of two households in my neighborhood with homosexual residents.

There is a man who has been in his home for at least 40 years. Don't know if his roommate is long term or not.

Two women down the street have lived there together for  at least 23 years.

Both are owner occupied properties and very nicely maintained. No problem to anybody. All residents are well behaved.

Is it public business to regulate their lives, to say a judge, or a chaplain can/can not join them in a partnership of sorts? Is that in our federal or state Constitutions?

I honestly don't know.

I often compare demanding a church to condone what they see as a sin to being on the level of going to KFC and demanding a Big Mac. Ain't going to happen, and foolish as hell to even try. Nor should you try.

On the more personal front - most of the homosexual couples I know are completely monogamous. Been together for years - decades in some cases. I would like a way to celebrate that joy.

To be against same-sex marriage does not make one homophobic. When a car and home of a Seattle gay couple was vandalized with spray paint with anti-gay messaging (God hates f---) and such giving the impression Christians did it, our church in the suburbs collected well over well over the $2000 cost of the damage and sent it to the couple, with a letter of apology on behalf of Christians, and a beautiful message about how God loves them and all of us.

I work with gay people, and I have no more reason to dislike them for what they do outside of work than  I do with a straight person I may sit next to in church that is struggling with an internet porn addiction or drinking problem. We all fall short.
